CAPS DURING PRAYERS SESSION IN AFRICA SPIRITUALITY BY BABALAWO OBANIFA -Obanifa
Extreme documentaries- Reformed Africa Ifa Spirituality ( RAIS)- Odu Ifa
liturgy Series
In this current work Babalawo
Obanifa will explain and document in details reasons why men remove their cap
during prayers in Africa culture and Spirituality. It is norms in Africa culture and spirituality
that during prayers session or ritual, the men will often remove their caps and
women will remove their Gele (headgear/Scarves ). Oral tradition have that in ancient time, this
is not the custom back then. It is only few people that do open their cap
during prayer. Same applicable to women. But matter to a point where one reigning King known
as Olofin Oduduwa face a lot of hardship as a result of his contemptuous habit
during prayer by the habit of himself and his household not removing cap and
their women not removing the gele (headgear and scarf). It is until this habit
was change, that their prayers begin to manifest. On this Odu Ifa Owonrin Obara :
Iroke mo fun o gba
Iruke Awo odo
awinrinmogun
Adase Ifa mon ni
singindin Singindin
Dia fun Olofin Odududa
To ji ni kutu-kutu
To n fi Ifa se Iwadeyo
Oro re ko ba loju
Ebo ni won ni ko se
O si gbo ebo nbe o rubo
Won ko ye de fila wure
Ki awon aya re re ye we gele wure
Bi won o ba si fila Osi
kuro lori
Ori ko le gbo tiwon
Bi won o ba si gele Osi
kuro lori
Ori ko le raye gbo tiwon
Translation:
Iroke mo fun o gba
Irukere is the Awo of Awirinmogun
river
The act of manifestation of
Ifa precise prediction is here
This was Ifa’s message
for Olofin Oduduwa
He wo will wake up in the
morning
And take Ifa as his play
mates
Things begin to goes
upside down for him
He was advise to offer ebo
He heard of the ebo and
complied
He was told to always remove
his cap during prayer session
His wives should also remove
their head gear
If they refuse to remove
the wretched cap from their heads
Their Ori cannot hear and
accept their prayers
If they refuse to remove
their wretched headgear from their head
Ori cannot hear their
prayers.
According to the oral
traditional account of Odu Owonrin Obara cited above. In the day of the old. Olofin Oduduwa was
a very powerful king. He has won battle
after battle. Not only that. He his equally Gifted dreamer interpreter to the extent
that he was given the title of Sala. This
have gone to his head. when ever Iwure prayers is been offer for him or his
house hold. He will not remove his cap. His wives and children will not remove
their head gear. It gets to point in his
life that he is facing a lot of hardship. He pray many times. his prayer was
not answers. Then he decided to invite Awo to consult Ifa for him. Odu Ifa Owonrin
Obara was revealed .The Awo chants as
explained above . He was advise that it is because he and his household have
not been removing their caps and head
gear in prayers. He was advised to offer
ebo and avoid such futher. They complied .
It is believe that it through head that the prayer and blessing of
Olodumare enter our head. We should therefore not cover it during prayers.
That is will it now be
come custom and norms for people to remove their caps for men and headgear for
women droning prayers.
