In this work Babalawo Obanifa will document in detail different  Spiritual and Herbal Formulae available in African Spirituality and Herbal Medicine for the treatment of Mental Disorder. The treatment of mental disorder usually depend on the causes, whether the mental illness arise spiritually as a result of evil people or Physically due to depression, abuse of drugs etc. Hence Africa herbal medicine and spirituality  in treating mental disorders spiritual problems will be solved spiritually and physical problem will be solve physically. But before I started to explain different spiritual and herbal remedies available to cure mental disorder or illness. we must at least know what is mental disorders. I think in this regard Wikipedia do justice to what is mental disorders in a simple lay man words thus: A mental  disorder, also called a mental  illness or psychiatric  disorder, is a diagnosis by  a mental health professional of a behavioral or Mental "pattern that may cause suffering or  a poor  ability to functioning  life. Such features may be persistent, relapsing and remitting, or occur as a single episode. Many disorders have been described, with signs and symptoms that vary widely between specific disorders

The causes  of mental disorder are often unclear. Theories may incorporate findings from a range of fields. Mental disorders are usually defined by a combination of how a person behaves, feels, perceives, or thinks .This may be associated with particular regions or functions of the brain , often in a social  context. A mental disorder is one aspect of mental health. Cultural and religious beliefs, as well as social norms, should be taken into account when making a diagnosis.

But in this work I  will explore the wholistic treatment of mental disorder from perspective of Africa spirituality and herbal medicine.

SPIRITUAL AND HERBAL CURE FOR MENTAL DISORDER OR MENTAL ILLNESS AS DOCUMENT  BY BABALAWO OBANIFA

Herbal Remedies for Mental illness :The herbal remedies I will explain below is one of the ancient secret use in Africa herbal medicine for treatment of  mental disorders or Mental illness. They are

 1.

The first thing is to shave the head of the mentally disorders person that is about to be treat. Remove all the hair in his or her head. Don't throw the hair away, put the hair in a pot, add Odidi atare (one full Alligator pepper with scientific name Aframomum melegueta) burn it together. Grind it into fine powder. That is the first thing that he will take with palp.

Alubosa elewe(Allium ascalonicum)

Epo pupa(red palm oil)

Ikoko(local clay pot)

Preparation

You will place the placenta inside the clay pot, you will put a lot of Alubosa elewe(Allium ascalonicum) on it, You will pour red palm oil on it.  Leave it for a day.

Uses

You will be given one table spoon of it to the person suffering from mental disorder to drink daily. The usage must continue until the improvement of mental  sanity is achieved.

Get ewe tete abalaye (spiny leave with scientific name Amaranthus Spinosus)

 Ewe bomubomu (swallow wort with scientific name Calotropis procera)

Preparation

Grind the two leave together well, mix the paste with shea butter and palm oil.

Usage

 The cream will  be use to rub the shave head of the mentally disorders person.

Iru oka (tip tail of cobra snake)

Ewe rinrin (leave of peperomia pellucida)

 Efo tete gidi (leave of Amaranthus Spinosus)

Preparation

You will grind them . Water from mature snail will be collected. The water will be use to mix the paste. It will thereafter be mix with palm oil and shea butter.

 Usage

it will be applied to clear shave head of a mentally disorders patient.

Collect water from coconut. Get as much water from the many coconut as you can. Get ata ijosin (bird pepper  fruits with scientific name Capiscum  Frutescence) put the people fruits inside the coconut water. Then boil it well. Remove the fruits. Sundry it and begin to use to cook soup for the mentally disorders person.

Ewe omonigelegele (leave of Lauracee with scientific name Cuscuta  Australis)

Ewe imo Ikin tabi ope ifa (leave of Palm trees of Ifa where sacred ifa nut is obtained)

 Omi osan ganyinganyin (juice obtain from citrus medical)

Preparation

Cook both leaves with the juice.

Usage :a mental disorder patient  will be given one cup of it in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Ewe ekoya (fresh leave of Gynandropsis gynandra)

 Egbo tude(Calliandra Porttoricensis)

 Alubosa elewe(leafy onion with scientific Allium Ascalonicum)

 Ewe koropo wewe (leaf of physalis Angulata

Preparation

 Grind everything together and mix with soap.

 Usage.

The soap will be using to wash the clear shave head of the mentally disorder person.

Ewe Abirikolo(leaves of Crotalaria Lachinophora)

Ewe Aidan (leaves of  Tetrapleura Tetraptera)

Ewe Obi  (leaves of kola Acuminata)

Ewe Igun(leaves of Tephrosia Vogelli)

Oko ofee(Vetivera Ngritana)

Ose dudu ( local black soap)

Iyerosun ( Ifa consultation powder)

 Preparation

All the aforementioned leaves should be obtained fresh. Pound them together with pestle and mortal to form a paste. You will sundry it, You will use Iyerosun to imprint Odu Ifa Iwori Okanran thus:

You will chant the following Ifa Inacantation on it thus:

Obi nib o arun mole

Abrikolo loni ki gbogbo ajogun ibi o pehinda leyin lagbaja

Nijo ti a ba gbo Igun s’odo ni pa  eja ni ibu

Gbogbo were ara re ni ko pa

Aidan ma fi were  dan wo mon

Orun oko ofeAidan , ma  je ki ajogun ibi o duro ti lagbaja

Gbogbo alujonu ki parapo je ose dudu.

Translation:

It is the obi that overpower diseases

Abrikolos say that all evil spirit should withdraw themselves from ( you will mention the name of the person )

It is the day that Igun leaves is squeeze into the river, it on that day that it kill fishes

Go and elinmate the mental illness in( you will mention the name of the person)

Aidan don’t tempt him with mental illness anymore

The scent odors from Oko ofe  should not allow evil spirit to stay with (You will mention the name of the person)

All the evil spirit doesn’t gather to eat Ose dudu.

You will preserve it in a bottle.

Uses: one table spoon of the preparation should be added to corn mean meal for the patient with mental illness every morning.

Akose ifa Irosun Meji Lati Toju Were ( Ifa Medicine from Irosun Meji To Cure Mental Illness)

Ewe igi Ojiji(leaves Of Dalbergia Lactea)

Ewe olora Igbo(leaves Of Rauvolva Vomitoria)

Eja Ojiji (one electric eel /electric fish)

Iyerosun(ifa consultation powder)

Preparation

You will grind the two aforementioned leaves, you will use Iyerosun (Ifa consultation powder ) to imprint Odu Ifa Irosun meji on it thus:

You will chant the following incantations on it thus:

Ojiji igi lo ni ki arar re  ji

Oloraigbo loni ki iye re ko ma ra

Eja ojoji loni ki opolo re ji

Translation

It is Ojiji igi that says your body should be revived

Olora igbo says that you should not lose your memory

Ojiji fish say that your brain should be revived

.You will pour it inside the pot with the fish and leaves. Cook and give it to the person with mental illness to eat.

Akose Ifa Owonrin Iwori fun Itoju Were ( Ifa  medicine from Owonrin Iwori to treat Mental illness)

Kanhun bilala die (trona)

Eeru(Xylopia Aethiopical)

Ewe ati egbo ako dodo (leaves and roots of Vocanga Africana)

Iyerosun(Ifa consultation powder).

Preparation

All the aforementioned excluding the Iyerosun will be boil inside water. You will use the Iyerosun to imprint Odu Ifa Owonrin Iwori thus:

Ewe ako  dodo ni wo asiwin

Egbo ako do ni wo asiwere

Epo ako dodo ni wo ara ti ko ya.

Transaltion:

It is dodo leaves that cure mad person

It is root of dodo that cure mental illness

The back stem of dodo cures the body of ailment.

You will pour the iyerosun inside the decoction

: Uses

The patient will be drinking it once a day early in the morning.
