Ifa say that the person
whom this Odu ifa is reveals for, must offer ebo to prevent loss of benefits
and opportunity. This person must also learn not to be too greedy and selfish.
If he/she is in any position of leadership he should learn to be able to share
whatever gain he made with his subordinate. He must also not as a result of
greed and selfishness refuses to delegate part of his duties to his
subordinates. On this Ifa says;
Pere nidi ope
Okookan la hera
Eni he meji a sojooro
Dia fun Alagbaa omo
amore siwaju Egungun
Ola ti ohun n je la bahun
kale ni n da ifa si
Ebon i won ni ko se
O koti ogbon si ebo
Translation
Pere nidi ope
It is one by one that we
pick palm fruit
He who pick two at once
have engage in act of cheating
This is Ifa messages for
Alagba one who carry cane in front of Egungun
Would he be able to enjoy
the affluence of his position for long
That is his essence of
Ifa consultation
He was advised to offer
ebo
He refused to complied.
In the day of the old . Alaagba was selected
as the head of Egungun cult. He is getting a lot of money, gifts and benefits
from his position as a leader of the egungun cult. He felt threating that some
people were about to take this position away from him. He went therefore to
consult the awo mentioned earlier. The awo advised him that if he did not want
to lose this position and the benefit that come along with it the way the
people before him have do. He should offer ebo
and also avoid act of greed and selfishness .He should imbibe the habit
of sharing whatever they get from with his followers . And he should learn to
delegate his duties by sending his follower to some place like where funeral
rite is been conducts, whatever report and proceeds they give back to him he should be satisfied
by it. He refused this advised and
called the babalawo a rogue .He said it
from his lineage they have always choose the leader of Egungun cult and that
whatever gifts or benefit that accrue to him that he is entitle to it without
sharing it with anybody. This selfish behavior is what prompt his follower to
conspire against him and have him removed from his position of leadership
consequently he lost all the benefit along. They install other Alaagba in
replacement of him ,he also behave in similar manner they have him removed too.
The chose almost six person for this role after this they equally behave in
similar manner. This what make them
think who again can we consider for this role .Then they remember that there
still an old man known by name Alapini.
They went to Alapini.Alapini accept the role , But he went for Ifa consultation with same
Babalawo that other people have previously went to. The awo advised him to
offer ebo with one basket of wrap corn meal Eko,plenty of beans cake, Plenty of
olele(grounded beans food) one he-goat and money. He complied with the ebo. The
awo equally advised him that he should not
be following Egungun out ,He
should stay at home when his follower do that and bring back the proceed
of their outing to him, he should also not follow them to place of funeral rite
rather than he should delegate such deities. He should also learn to share gift
and benefits that accrue to him with his followers and subordinates. He complied with all these directive. When the
festive period come. He delagted the role to his follower. When they are coming
back home .They actually divide the
proceed to two equal part. The only give the half to Alapini thinking that he will not share out it with
them as his predecessor. But is he is different. Before they arrived Alapini
wife have cooked foods of various sort
and make drinks available .When they arrive Alapini cap it by Killing an
He-goat for them. They ate and drink and all happy. When they deliver the money
they laimed the make to him. He said they should divide it into four Equal
parts, They should give one to the drummers, one part for the people who wear mask of masquerade,
and one path for themselves and women that follow them he Alapini take the
fourth part. They were all surprise non of their leader have ever do this
before. They don’t have option than to confess and even give him the rest of
the money they are hiding without wanting him to share it with them. They were
highly surprise by his magnanimity. That is how Alapini become father of all
Egungun up till today.
