In this current work Babalawo Obanifa will reveal and document the acceptable method that can be use to venerate and pray to Orisa Ogun from the perspective of Reform Africa Ifa Spirituality (RAIS). Ogun  is god of Iron. The believe of our forefathers is that Ogun is one of the primordial Irunmonle (divinities) that first descended from heaven to earth. It is believed that Ogun is the one who uses his cutlass to clear the path for other Irunmonle divinities when they are coming from Ikole Orun(heaven) to Earth.  The Ogun that perform the aforementioned function is known as Ogun Ereja. It was fundamentally believed in Africa Ifa cosmology that Ogun is the one who was the first to invent and master the use of Iron. Hence Ogun is been refer to as god Of Iron. He is the spiritual energy in charge of Iron and other Metallic Objects. Because of the power of Ogun to clear road for passage for other Irunmonle . Ogun is normally venerated to perform same function for human being in their life or working place. In this work I will show you the  simple method to venerate and pray to Ogun and harness Ogun energy to your advantage. This work will be useful for you whether you are a practicing Babalawo, Ifa devotes, Orisa devotes. The work will also be useful even if you are a neutral person that have no knowledge of Africa Spirituality before. In is instructive to note that the author of this work (Babalawo Obanifa) is an authoritative leading Ifa and Orisa theologian so any knowledge reveal in this work is practical and authoritative and can rely upon as practicing spiritual guide by anybody who want harness Ogun Energies.

What Symbol Can I used to Pray to Ogun (god of Iron)?

The major Symbol of Orisa Ogun is Iron and any Metallic Object which range from knives, cutlass, machete, Gun, Car engine or any thing made of Metal. The general believes as spread by many Babalawo to general public that have little or no knowledge of Africa Spirituality is that you need to have consecrated Ogun element or go to a shrine set up for Ogun before you can pray or harness the spiritual energy of Ogun for your purpose. This is farm from truth. There are three method that you can use to harness the energy through its symbol which is Iron or Metallic Objects. They are through Ogun shrine, Ogun icon or consecrated element or Ordinary iron or any metallic object. The three method are valid. I will be explained each in seriatim.

Ogun shrine – You can go to the front of shrine set up for Ogun. I have previously written in one of my previous work on how to set up Ogun shrine.

Ogun consecrated Element/Ogun Icon- Some people do have Ogun Icon specially consecrated for them. Certain Metallic Objects such as knives, cutlass, digger etc. will be put inside iron or lead pot. the items will be washed with leaves for such purpose. Ogun energies can reach through Ogun Icon

Iron or any Ordinary Metallic Objects:  Iron or any ordinary Metallic Objects can be used to harness Ogun energy. In fact, this is easier method to harness Ogun energy.  All you to gather any metallic objects in your surroundings such as your knives, gun, cutlass   or any metallic objects you have will suffice. When you gather it together it is on top of it you will pour your libation and other items you pray with will be apply. If the absence of any metal objects opening the bonnets of your car and offer your prayer with it will be deem as if you are praying to Ogun energy. And same level of efficacy will be obtained.

When Can Some One pray to Ogun (god of Iron)?

There is no time that one cannot harness Ogun energy and pray with it. You can pray to Ogun at any time. But there are specific time or reason when someone can pray to Ogun. They are:

Recommendation through Ifa consultation -In some cases when Idafa is done . Ifa can recommend that such clients should venerate Ogun for certain Purpose. It may be to open door for them in business or vocation. It may also be for them to gain victory over enemies and adversaries.

Annual Ogun festival- In some town they celebrate annual Ogun festival, some family lineage celebrate annual Ogun festival, Some Association such Driver or transporter association  do celebrate annual Ogun festival in which they will pray and appease Ogun energies for safety, Hunter and Blacksmith popularly known as Alagbede in local parlance too do celebrate Ogun in such manners.

Special veneration to expose the evil doer : If certain crime or offence is committed and the identity of such evil doers remain unknown. Ogun can be venerating to fish out the wrong doer by exposing such wrong doers. The manifestation of such prayer is that the wrong doer can suffer harsh death via Iron prone accident or suffer body injuries in such a manner that it will be reveal that he is the culprits of such wrong doing.

Personal veneration of Ogun out Volition: Some people will personally venerate Ogun for on personal volition to charge the energy with the responsibility of to spiritually open doors of opportunity for them and also for victory over enemies.

Whichever of the purpose is your purpose. The sample prayer that I will explained below will suffice in any of the aforementioned purpose.

Who can pray to Ogun Energy?

You don’t need to be deluded and get deceive by lies of the centuries that it is certain priest/priests that can pray to Ogun. Any body can pray and harness the Ogun energies. You don’t need to be   Babalawo or any Orisa priest/priestess before you can pray to Ogun Energies.  If you have sense enough to read and understand the information I reveal in this work and get necessary item I will list below depend on capacity. You can pray and harness the energy.

What are the items I need to harness Ogun energy or pray with it?

All or some of the of the aforementioned items below can be used use to venerate Ogun . They are :

Aja (Dog)

Isu sisun/Esunsun (Roasted Yam)

Eyan Agbado (Roasted beans)

Otin (gin)

Obi Oloju Merin (kola nut with four lobes)

Orogbo (bitter Kola/Garcina Kola)

Ataare (Alligator pepper/AframomumMelegueta)

Emu (palm wine )

Eyele (Pegion)

Iyan (pounded Yam)

Ekuru (Grounded and boil white beans )

Epo Pupa (Red palm oil )

Iyo (salt)

Akukodiye( Cock/Rooster)

Igba omi tutu(bowl of water)

NB: It is instructive for you to note that it is not compulsory for you to get all the aforementioned listed above before can pray and harness Ogun energy.  If you can find at least Bowl of water, Kola nut,  kolanut, salt,  rep palm oil, roasted yam ,roasted corn, and palm wine.  It is not very act of Ogun veneration that demand shedding of animal blood. In instance where you want to venerate and use animals. Dog is the favorite of Ogun.

How do I pray or venerate Ogun?

Once you get your items and ready to pray to Ogun. The following are practical step by step needed to follow to pray to Ogun.

The first thing note is praying Position to Orisa Ogun. The only acceptable praying position to Orisa Ogun is  standing position. When ever you want to pray to Orisa Ogun .you must remain standing.

You will first pay Homage to Olodumare (God) and other divinities.

After necessary ijuba and homage done either by the babalawo or Aworo Ogun.He will proceed to invoke the spirit of ogun thorough some of his panegyric to bring it presence to the ritual for the person in question.. The name of the person for home the ritual is done will be mentioned. If the person for whom the ritual is to be done is not presence the name of the person and his or her mother name is all that is required. Some people do try to get pictures of the person involved but this is irrelevant it the name that matter. Then you can proceed with the following verse to invoke  ogun for protection and road Opening

Ogun lakaaye (Ogun whose affluence is all over the world)
The king among all the dieties
One whose house is full of money
One with pathway to riches
One who own the Cheitancy Title of Ejemu Of Iworan city
One who is smartly armed and equipped with weapon when ever is going to fighting spot
One who divinely clear the path through wich we come to this world
Ogun who own two cutlass
He uses one of it to clear Bush for farming activities
He use the other one to clear a pathway
When ogun is decending from the above
You cover your body up with the cloak of fire
You wear a  clothe of blood
Ogun whose house is full of money
Whose pathway lead to riches
Ogun who own innumerable houses in heaven
One whose house is full of water but still bath with blood
One whose house is full of cloth, but still wear palmfrond
One with redish eye ball
The supporter of the orphans
My ogun is of seven variety
It is Ogun Alara that eat dog
It is Ogun onire that eat ram
It is Ogun Onikola that eat snail
It is Ogun Elemona that eat roasted yam
It is Ogun Akiran that eat Ram horn

Where do we meet Ogun?
You meet him at fighting spot
Or where there is conflicts
You meet him when the pool of blood is flowing
The pool of blood that can match you to neck
Like water inside a keg
If a child is found of betraying
He should never betray ogun
Matter with ogun is delicate
Ogun is extremely strict and Frank
The orisa that took over the house and the forest
It only am ignorant person that will say if Ogun take over the house
He will go to the forest
Who doesn't know that a diety that take over a house, can take over both the forest and river from one possession
Ogun don't afflict me with your anger
If you make pounded yam and yam flower food in the house
Kindly preserve portion of Ogun
It is Ogun that is use for farming
It is ogun that is use to prepare the shelter
Ogun I implore you
Open pathway of wealth for me

After this has been done, you can recite other incantations from ifa verse, at each stage of the items steps for the rituals.
For example you can recite odu ifa odi meji thus in furtherance of your prayer for protection and road opening at the cause of the rituals. The odi meji goes thus

Odidi fenu digun
Amotekun ni gbe okeree fo ohun yara
Eni gbo ohun oligburo loke
A ni bi ko terin
O  po just efon lo
Difa fun irin wowo ti se aremon ogun
Ojo ti irin wowo ba bale

It is Odidi that use it own mouth to prevent war
It is Amotekun that make sounds from far distance, as if it was in nearby room
The person that hear Ologburo voice from far distance
Will  say if it not up to an Elephant
It must be pretty bigger than a buffalo
Cast ifa divination reading Irinwowo who is Aremon Ogun
It on the day that Irinwowo descend on land
It is that same day that he will conquer enemies
Let I babalawo Obanifa conquer enemies
Let me conquer poverty, lack and all adversities
