CHAPTER FIFTY -TWO

PRAYER OF WORSHIP IN IFA AND ORISA SPIRITUALITY
By this we are referring to prayer that can be use to adore or worship Olodumare and each Irunmole or Orisa to hearken to Our request or need or we can also show appreciation  with it. Below are set of prayer that can be used for such purpose:

Ifa Prayer for paying Homage & Reverence To  Olodumare And Ancestor(ijuba)

Paying homage and reverence is an indispensable aspects of Ifa and orisa spirituality. Paying home and reverence is essential step use by a Babalawo and any orisa devotee to seek seek spiritual guidance and acceptability of their prayer, sacrifice etc. The first step in iwure (prayer) or idafa (divination) or ibo (Propitiation)  is ijuba (paying homage or reverence). The essence of paying homage before anything is to submit our self to OLODUMARE and all the force of the universe and nature both the visible and invisible forces of nature that they are above us and let our prayers and requests be granted. And that any errors, mistake or omissions on our part during the divination or sacrifice should be overlooked . So in this work babalawo Obanifa will explain in detail how a practicing babalawo or Orisa devotee can pay homage before prayer or divination. And any individual who have his or her orisa  elements can use it as well to pay homage before praying to their orisa.
The first step during paying homage or reverence is to pay homage to OLODUMARE (God) the next step is to pay homage to all the invisible spiritual entity. These will entail igba irumonle ojukotun, igba irumonle ojukosi, Ile ogere a fi oko yeri (Mother Earth) iyami osoronga (the witches) the name of your god father whether alive or late. The late and living babalawo. Any name of orisa that can be mentioned as well as your ancestors. Then you will then recite any ifa versa verse for paying Homage and reverence. The leading ifa scriptural authority for paying Homage is odu ifa Oturupon meji tabi Ologbon meji. The ifa verse that can be recited for this purpose goes thus :

Prayer To Orisa Osun (Iwure Nidi Orisa osun) by babalawo

In this work babalawo Obanifa will explain extensively how to pray to orisa osun, either by osun devotee or babalawo who won't to do prayer on behalf of clients to osun or individual who have osun elements who want to pray with it. The steps of the prayer is essential too during adimu.
Osun area of specialisation is is purely in the aspects of fertility healing. Children healing, she is a female deity who can be regarded as spiritual paediatric. She only allow the use of cold water for healing with ritual. The use of Medicine and herbs and soap by some people who claim to be osun devotee or iya osun today for healing is an aberration from normal standard of worshiping orisa osun. Osun only allow the use omi tutu (cold water in ritualise way for healing and praying). If you are a women or man if you want to pray to osun you must be pure and not hypocritical in your sexual or relationship life. So person who have extra marital sexual affairs especially women can not pray to osun, because such prayer will go unanswered.
If you want to pray to osun, one or more of the following items can be use depending on your capabilities or instructions given. Efo yanrin (wind lettuce with scientific name Lactuca taraxacifolia)  Omuluku (cooked beans) obi oloju merin (kolanut with four lobes) asaro (mashed cook yam with palm oil) obidiye (hen) abo ewure (she - goat). One or more of the following items can be use to pray to orisa Osun.
After homage has been pay as necessary. The the osun devotee or babalawo in question or individual who want to pray to the Osun Elements will proceed to say the following

Who eats the heart from the liver, who  eat intestine from the bile
You who your act of swimming in the river gives strange sounds
You who walk briskly in deep and shallow water
The birds with moderate wings
The bird with moderate legs
The birds with majestic gait
One who wakes neatly, and walk around with dignity
Who walk in staggering manner to the market place?
You are the virile and agile bird in my right hand
You are also the virile and agile birds in my left hand
The immaculate whitish bird with strong countenance
One with sharp eyeballs, the popular noise maker at night
The poisonous cobra
The python in the riverine area
The scorpion under the bark stem of a tree
The sorrowful childless old lady
Eyele (the  pigeon) daughter of Lasewo
You who become extremely delighted at the sight of a big giant rat
You who shout Kooro
You who shout Kaara
You are the one who defecate on both brass and beads
And no  one dare reprimand you on it, I pay homage
Let the homage of I Babalawo Obanifa be accepted

My lord you rise up well

He who hangs white without removing it from heaven

A strong man in the city Iranje

All around us as the market square

As tall as strong, Oosala as we hang up the gun

He cursed the goat before beheading it

A leopard that kill animals without deny them

The great king with a gong of war

Obatala please ,he who have powerful bell in his sack

He put sleeplessness at home of liars

He whose house no one can reach

The home near heaven

The house of white beads

He buikds a house with sixteen rooms

The mender of heaven

The death that molds new baby’s head

He-who cares for the head of abiku child

So that their heads may not get sick

Take care of my head for me

Father obanjala did not sleep on the floor

It is on the wood mortal

Leopard, husband of oyele

I saw my assistance

The oyele of ijao spread on the ground

The indigene of ifon said he is a farmer

If he is a farmer, did you find his hoe  in his hand?

Did he dig a ditch at ojo?

We saw orange at Are

We also found orange at Ijao

We ran to catch orange at Ojo

Walk slowly to catch the orange at Are

I fought hard to catch the orange at  Ijao

The youth atIfon have no elders

All of them ran fast

Only oosala knows those he will give orange

It is me, who he will give the orange

Great king, he who add to one  at  your hand

The liars at Ifon must not drink palm wine

The offsprijngs of Ijao dance an acient dance to vanish

A piece of cloth is enough for the son of cripple to be wrapped in

No way is the hunchback unble to stand up

Oosala please don’t act like this in our home

It is four among osooro that are good to worship

He stuck on one ground at Are

The one he stuck down at Ijao

That wasthe  one thst indigenes of ifon worshipped

The giany one that he stuck down at Apa

That one jad sixteen figures

It has fugures of cobra, viper and snakes

The longest one, he stuck to the soil at Iranje

That was the one that became gbin-in-gbin

Father, gbin-in-gbin is forgiven

The person that cut gbin-in-gbin will not survive it

Why gbin-in-gbin has no leaf?

The indigenes of Ifon say that the tree has grey hairs

Inhabitants of Ijao

Immigrants of Ilawe

At Ilawe, I quickly took a bath

And cleanse with a calabash of palm oil

I ate pounded yam

I painted my head white

My father, I later rubbed my body with camwood at the temple

Omotawede also climbed the heap of earth at Iranje

Citizen of ijao invited adegbala aborisa

They also called ejeope the paramount ruker of adikun

The citizen of ifon called akinnuu

Offspring of he who took a stick to stop the war

They told them, omotawede climbed the heap of earth at ojo

She also climbed the heap of earth at ijao

I draw water to the house

It was at the shrine of oosa that I stepped on a stone

It sound “sin kin”

I did not fear

It was outside of are that I beat the calabash of the witch

The offspring of Afiwodosu

Omotawede don’t besat the calabash of the witch in our home

Oosala said, where should I establoish the market?

Ijao became the market

Ifon became home

Ifon is our abode

The male bird that played on a tree

Agbigbo did not follow them to bring wealth to the shrine of orisa

Orisalaa created tge market

Akoda said “it was my father’s market”

True, he is the son of the father

It was  his father’s market

Orisa started tto boast

They said it was my father’s market

They were all correct

They were the son of the father

Omotawede said don’t fight about market anymore

Oluife, he is a son of father

The monarch eleyo ajori

He is the son of the father

Ataoja he is the son of the father

Omotawede said, let us go to Asorin

Let everyone have their  own day

Oosala said, I only brought four days from heaven to the  earth

Omotawede said, how can we identify the names of the day?

Oosala said, take one day as my own week

Make another day jakuta

Take a day for ogun

The remaining day is for Awo

Today is the market day of okun bead

Tomorrow is market day for segi bead

The day after tomorrow is the market day of iyun at the city of ifon

The fourth day is market day of seseefun

The argument did not permit akesan to have a day

Everyone goes to market on his own day

They went to the market at ojo

They make their hard sound “bugabuga”

The day of market at Are

Their hands made a sound of “bugabuga”

At ijao market, we did not lick our palms

At house of ifon we lick our palms

The palm torn

At the home of orisaala

We ate soup with good taste

I have palm oil at home, ate snail in white

Indigene of ijao, I buy salt and I ate withiout salt

I have a mat at home

I slept on the grass

I prepared a mat as I made the mat

The great king that has grass to make bed for his children neatly

At the house of orisaala

I have clothes at home

I wrapped in Afon to go to the river

We wrapped them in Afon to go to the river at midnight

Egungun is following us

Mask informant

Masquerade at the back

One must not hesitate

He who hesitates

It is sacrifice they use them for

Don’t use me to make sacrifice

I did not hesitate

It is coloured clothes that you folded on your arms

From the river to the house

The indigene of ifon gave it to Egungun to carry home

Offspring of iranje; must not use red colour anymore,

That makes indigene of ifon to use white clothes

There is one river at iranje

Unable to dry up

There is one that did not run

There is one that runs all the way to the city of adikun

The one that goes to otun town

Today I will pronounce our father’s rivers name

Pasa was running from home to adikun town

Odose is a river of respect

The visitors of adikun think it was an ordinary river

Pasa river, they wash clothes and calabash

The indigenes of ijao came there to fetch water to drink

The iranje citizens came there to draw water to bath

The inhabitants of ibolo came there to wash their faces

The people of ifon came there and washed their heads

We are now happy at ojo, we dance

The ayaba of adikun did not make trouble

The visitors of kodose did not recognize the close of week

When omotawede went to the river at ijao

She was dressed up all in white

The visitors of ibolo went to the rivers at kodose

They were all dressed up in black

The torrent of rain of adikun must not see black clothes

They were clearing the gutter at Kodose

The river Kodose refused to expand

The river pasatile started running fast

The frog at adikun started to abuse them

The inhabitants of ilawe also abused opa

A woman must not abuse opa at ilawe without regret

Only father was the first experience

Omotawede abused opa at ilawe

She abused it and nothing happened

She did not sell, nor did she buy

She had many goods at the market

The cock at adikun is unable to fly

He had palm oil on his head

That is father

The rainbow at ego road

The rainbow at adikun came down from heaven with arms of death

The great king as fire, bite someone

He built a house near ogun’s shrine

He had a backyard very near ogun’s shrine

The citizens of ijao all dressed in white

Inhabitants of ifon wore a white robe

It is your race that we all started

It is your walk that we all walk on the road

Those who stand became wooden mortar

Those who squatted became grinding stone

Those who came from ifon road became awurebe

Those who ran became eagle

It is the great king that we all seek

We arrived at ijao house

We also went to ife ooni

Truly we at ijao asorere

Oosala we arrived at ife ooye

Oosala put his load down

The hunchback carried it on his own back

The dwarf wore oversized gown to the shrine

The albino did not ask

His eyes did not see clearly

Husband of cripple that mopped the floor and spoilt it with bottom

Old man respect to you

May you live long

Father take it easy

The monarch of Ife

I took straight way at Are

Oosala I arrived at the city of Asorin

Three stones at Asorin

The one knocked my toe

The one said “take it easy”

The one said when I did not know the road

What was my mission to Asorin?

I said, it was father I came to meet

The one who covered his head and hand with pewter

It is father I came to meet

Oloba obedu the greta king that gave little food to the mouth of baby

There is one akandu that said he want to lick palm oil

The one said, he wamted to drink blood

The  one said, he wanted to eat ori

The one said, he wanted palm oil

That was the one they worshipped with goat

The one that said he wanted blood

That was the one to receive human beings at ilawe

That one that said,

He wanted Eri

That was the one that indigenes of ifon worshipped with snails

It is father I came to meet

The one that made the voice of a child

It is father, I came to meet

The one who command in his mouth

It is father I came to meet

The strong one that made one meet esu without giving away

It is father I came to meet

Oosala please don’t push me to esu

Don’t push esu to me either

Celicular beans did not grow at ede

That is father

Orimori, the one that live at the forest of ageeje

He who had drum of geeje geeje

It is father I came to meet

The one who nhad drum that is forbidden for people to dance to

The visitor on the road must not come there

Only the death in heaven

Only orisa at ilawe

Only omotawede, she who danced to the agba that no one must dance to

Only masquerade in heaven

Only orisa at ilawe

Except the one who had no hand

Only the one who had no leg

The drum that we made of dwarf skin

The one who had command of skin of the cripple

Oosala who had the dtum without a key

The bone of abuke is the one we used to beat ogidan for the father

It  is the skull that we used to drink efun

It is human blood that we drank and slept at Are

It is human bone we used as walking stick

My lord did you wake up well?

I heard a noise at ifon

I heard a noise behind the door

If it is not a group of thieves at ojo

When we arrived at ifon

It will be those who come to sleep with a woman

I will not be among thieves at ojo

Also I will not be among the thieves at ijao

I preferred to be among those who come to sleep with a woman

The death at heaven that come to take people away

The sixteen heavens with different kind of deeds in a sack

Never turn his back from a faithful person kindness to the mothers

The leopard that refused to follow wicked people

He never left faithful people at once

My lord, my savior

Took all energy to serve kind people

He only blessed those people they punished

When they punished me

Father, please bless me

We don’t know what he is going to do next year

The instant vital forces as fire bite a person

Oosa olufon please you are the great

My lord, did you wake up well?

He gave a warning to indigenes of Apa

They neglected it

When we warn people and they don’t listen it pains me

He said, those who cut leaf at Ijao

Should not go to apa to cut leaf again

If they disobeyed, it is the grove of apa

That is going to stop it

He said, those who cut lumber at iranje

Should not go to apa to cut the lumber again

If they disobeyed, they are going to stop it at apa grove

Only hunter at apa said, they will always disobey.

The hunters at apa were very disobedient

The friends of hunters

A covenants friend of hunter

He must not fight with hunters of apa

When you fight with hunters of apa

You wore a jumper of fire you heard music to dance to okusu he who danced along with the hunters to the market

I saw my savior

Act as the son of the hunter

The death that shared money equally with hunter

He met six hunters

Killed three of them

He tied two to a pole

He told the last one to inform people

The leader of hunters was at the farm

He tripped at hill of Apa

The people at home must not go to the farm

The farmer was unable to come home

Come and see

The dog barks

The dog announces the spotted leopard

Come and see!

Beautiful leopard

The kasan leaf of apa hill that the calabash mender went to cut

He fought against calabash mender with a bow and arrow

With bow and knife and razor and sharp sword

The calabash mender had no poison

Arodewogun has a small iron to wage war

He who used wide ear to listen to every word!

He who used white robe lived at ijao

He took a bag to ogbomoso

He put his gown at apeko

He put his bell to ring at Aaje’s house

His aggression killed the hunchback at Olufon’s house

Obatala did you wake up or not

The great king, good morning

Oosala take good care of my head for me , husband of the short

Husband he who had no hands, no legs

My lord, did you wake up or not?

Butterfly with eyes on his back.
