ENGLISH TRANSLATION
One’s name is one’s identity, Yoruba names reflect the culture, trade, gods being worshipped in the family as well as the situation in which a child was born. Yoruba had faith in the Almighty God of Heaven ever before the advent of Christianity and Islam. Ifa was then the religion of the Yoruba people, because “Ifa” was the medium of consulting God before embarking on any venture. Yoruba believed in the messengers of God known as mini gods called “Orisa”. There many mini gods but prominent among them are: Ogun – god or Iron; Sango – god of thunder and lightning; Oya – river Niger goddess, wife of Sango; Yemoja – goddess of all rivers; Oso – wizard deity, Osun – river goddess; Olokun – Ocean goddess; Sopona – deity associated with chicken pox; Esu – god of protector as well as trickster deity that generates confusion; etc. The names that were associated with all these Yoruba gods are disappearing because they are being replaced with “Olu, Oluwa, Olorun”, to reflect the modern beliefs. Check below names that associated with the traditional and modern faith:

One of the traditional practices of the Yoruba people is Ifa worship. It is a practice which originated thousands of years ago. It is a very ancient religion of the mysteries and messages of Olodumare revealed to man by Orunmila. Learn the basics of the Yoruba religion Ifa in this exciting article.
Ifa is a system of divination and religion of the Yoruba people. It also refers to the verses of the literary corpus that is known as Odu Ifa. Ifa Yoruba religion is practiced not just among the Yorubas in Nigeria but also throughout West Africa, the Americas and the Canary Islands. It also plays a critical role in the culture and traditions of Candomblé, Santería, Palo, Vodou, Umbanda, many other Afro-American faiths and in some traditional African religions.
The Grand Priest of Ifa is known as Orunmila. The belief is that Orunmila was sent to the earth by Olodumare (the creator of the universe) to bring the Laws of Olodumare into this world.
According to Yoruba mythology, Ifa oracle was founded by Orunmila in Ile-Ife (the city believed to be the source of the Yorubas – Orirun Ile Yoruba) after Orunmila had initiated himself and his students Aseda and Akoda. Another mythology suggests that Ifa religion was brought to Ile-Ife by Setiu, a Nupe man who settled in Ile-Ife.
Another history book titled The History of the Yorubas from the Earliest of Times to the British Protectorate written by two Nigerian historian Obadiah Johnson and Samuel Johnson tells us that Ifa was introduced to Oyo by Arugba, who was the mother of the 8th Alaafin of Oyo, Onibogi. She initiated the Alado of Ato and gave the rites to initiate others to him. The Alado then initiated priests in Oyo Empire.
Religion or spiritual system?
The Ifa religion is not, in fact, a religion. It is more of a spiritual system which is based on the belief in these three components: Olodumare (the Creator of heaven and earth), Orisa (Nature Spirits), and the ancestors.
Olodumare
According to Ife beliefs, Olodumare the Supreme Being has no gender and is not actively involved in the affairs of human beings. Olodumare created a universe that has everything that humans need to live a fulfilled and happy life.
Orisa
“Every life form and element of nature has an inner soul force – including rivers, rocks, clouds, metals, flowers, thunder, and the wind.” - African oral tradition.
The natural forces that make up the universe are referred to as Orisa, and each one of them has its specific functions. The human race is in constant communication with these natural forces, whether we are aware of it on not. These Orisas serve as the intermediary between the Olodumare and humans. There are many Orisas believed to be operating in the universe, but the basic and popular ones are:
Orisa Esu - the force or energy of opportunity.
Orisa Obatala - the force or energy of peace.
Orisa Ogun – the force or energy of the forest. It is also the spirit of dynamic creativity as it is associated with metal workers or blacksmith.
Orisa Osun - the force or energy of love and attraction of all good things on every level.
Orisa Oya - the force or energy of the wind and the force of sudden change.
Orisa Sango - the force or energy of thunder.
Orisa Yemonja or Olokun - the force/energy of the sea or oceans.
These Orisas are also seen as gods. Hence, they are referred to as the god of the force of nature they control. For example, Orisa Sango is popularly referred to as the god of thunder.
Odu Ifa
Odu Ifa is an Orunmila’s literary compilation which incorporated the experiences of priests and their clients and their results along with their stories. This documentation known as Odu Ifa contains sixteen major books. But there are a total of two hundred and fifty-six (256) Odu which reference all actions and their consequences, circumstance, situations in life based on the uncountable Ese Ifa (Poetic tutorials).
The 256 Odus coding is a combination of a collection of sixteen each of which has sixteen alternatives ⇔ 16^2, or 4^4 and the form the basis of the Ifa religion divination systems. The stories, poetry, and proverbs of Ifa are not written down but passed down orally from one Ifa priest or priestess to another. The Babalawos and the Iyanifas undergo training in the memorization and the interpretation of the two hundred and fifty-six Odu or mysteries and the Ese Ifa.
There are sixteen principle systems used by the Ifa Priests and Priestesses in the worship of Ifa to read divinations and prophecies.

Ifa worshippers are encouraged to employ the act personal responsibility and common sense, to appreciate the sacred things their everyday life, and to integrate every aspect of being; the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical.
This is just a summary of what the Ifa religion of the Yoruba people is all about. And like it stated at the beginning of this article, the Ifa religion or spiritual system is not limited to the Yoruba people. It is practiced across Nigeria, West Africa and some other parts of the world. Although there might be some differences in the practices.
he magic of the Yoruba tribe
African Yoruba people are numerous and well known. Yoruba history and the present life are very interesting topics for people all over the world. Even modern Nigerians who live in the big cities are wondering what the origin of Yoruba race is. You’ll find all the answers right now and right here.
Origin of Yoruba tribe
In fact, there are lots of kindred nations. They are very numerous. There are more than 30 million of representatives belonging to the Negroid race and living in West Africa in the area of the river Niger. This distribution area covers several countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Togo and Benin.
Archeologists found a lot of ancient pieces that proved that this nation is extremely old. But when and how did it appear? No one knows even now. According to the legend, the Yoruba tribe came from the east. The legendary ancestor of the Yoruba people is considered to be Oduduva. The Yoruba genome was examined and scientist detected from 0.2% to 0.7% Neanderthal genes.
Sometimes people say that Yoruba people originated from Benin. But not only from Benin. Some ancient remains made by these people were found nearby too.
Yoruba culture
The ancestors of these people created original culture Nok. It was the first on the African continent culture of the Iron Age. The terracotta and bronze statuettes of Nok culture are the pride of the leading museums of the world. Nok culture appeared 900 years before the birth of Christ and suddenly disappeared in the 200th year of our era.
The Yoruba people's culture, unlike most African cultures, did not undergo the invasion of white emigrants. The English, whose colonies covered the lands of the Yoruba people, did not support emigration to these colonies. It is for this reason that the traditions of the Yoruba people remain virtually unchanged.
Yoruba and now have a traditional understanding of the world and the distribution of natural forces in it. They only differ from each other in their communion with one or another social or political group that has its own center. At the same time, Ile Ife is equally important for all nationalities.
Origin of Yoruba language
Yoruba language belongs to the Kwa languages. Its written language is based on the Latin alphabet. Yoruba mainly distributed to the west and southwest of Nigeria, as well as to the central and western regions of Benin and the eastern part of the Central Togo.
There are about 10-12 million people speaking Yoruba language. It has eight major dialects, which differ mainly phonetically. The division into dialects roughly corresponds to the tribal and administrative division of Nigeria into provinces. Yoruba Language was used by the merchants, which contributed to its spread. Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa are three languages of Nigeria.
Within the western and south-western Nigeria, Yoruba produce magazines and newspapers, radio programs are broadcast. Yoruba language is taught in primary and secondary schools. Yoruba literature has original folklore, religious, educational, ethnographic and historical character.
The Yoruba language is: seven clean and seven nasal vowels and elision of common vowel harmony; dominated monosyllabic and disyllabic words, distinguished high, low, medium tone, but there are also moving (rising and falling) tones. The tone has semantic meaning.
These people are often highly-educated and smart. They are very numerous, so they speak different languages. The most popular ones are: Yoruba, French and English. Also there are different dialects.
Yoruba dressing
Traditional clothing is still widespread. Clothes from hand-made fabrics are the most valued. Men's clothing is mostly embroidered. There is a variety of women's headbands. But in the cities, European clothing is spreading, as well as universal ‘all-African’ embroidered spacious clothing.
Yoruba food
Yams tubers of various kinds are used for food: boiled, fried separately or mixed with various vegetables. People prepare ‘fufu’ - a dish that fulfills the role of bread. The use of corn is also widespread: corn grain is cooked with beans, fried, added to meat or bananas.
Most dishes are very spicy. Yoruba food hasn’t changed much for the last decades.

These Africans are the creators of a particular civilization in this part of the continent, which is known as the holy city-state called Ile Ife. Hitherto its excavations cause a lot of questions and hypotheses, so the interest is only rising. Ile Ife was and is a special place for the African people.
There are different religious: Christianity (60%), Islam (30%), and traditional belief (10%). Traditional Yoruba religion has always been important to the people of Nigeria as it was created in these areas. So now lots of people confess it. This is a mix of magic and religious concepts based on knowledge of the nature power.
Writing, in contrast to the language and religion of the Yoruba people, was created only in the 19th century. And only thanks to the missionaries from Europe.
A large number of Yoruba people live in the western part of Nigeria. They still keep their traditions and customary way of life. As writing developed only in the 19th century. Hundreds of years ago they shared information only orally.

Pre Colonial Nigeria: tribes and their religion
The Pre colonial Nigerian society is considered to be a subject of a lot of researches. Even if Nigeria looks to be a united country, it experiences struggles from the inside. One of the reasons for this struggle is religion. Today we will try to find out the roots of religion for every major tribe in Nigeria. Continue reading to learn more!
Hausa religion in pre colonial Nigeria
Hausa is one of the predominant tribes in Nigeria. These days, they are mostly the representatives of the Islam religion. It`s interesting that Hausa is the least influenced by traditional religious beliefs. The reason for that is Islam. Muslims came to Hausaland in the 11th century. The Hausas accepted and supported the spread of Islam. Hausa received the Islamic religion from traders of Guinea, Mali, Borno and North Africa.
Islam religion is part of what helped Hausa to be a dominant tribe in the West Africa. They created the Sokoto Caliphate, which even tried to fight against colonial powers in the 19th century. However, they failed and became a part of the British Empire.

Hausa people also had traditional African Beliefs. Their traditional religion is called Maguzawa. In pre-colonial Nigeria history, this religion was mainly nurtured in remote areas of Hausaland. Maguzawa is also a subgroup of Hausa people in modern times. They believe in spirits (iskoki). There are three thousand iskoki in their religion. All of them are divided into two groups:
☛ The Gona – farm spirits;
☛ The Daji – Bush Spirits.
There are also six major spirits in this religion:
☛ Bagiro – this spirit can devour souls;
☛ Manzo – the name can be translated as “messenger.” This spirit is described as a dog who can torture souls;
☛ Babban Maza – his name translates as “great among men.” Therefore, this spirit is usually described with a pestle;
☛ Waziri – this spirit provides gifts to people;
☛ Mai`iali – she is the queen of spirits. She is generally portrayed wearing a large cloth with children;
☛ Sarki Aljah – he is a king of all spirits.
Bori and Hausa
Bori is another Hausa religion which can be seen in pre colonial Nigerian culture. The main characteristic of this religion is spirit possession. For example, they used spirits to heal illnesses. They performed adoricism to achieve this. Adoricism is an opposite side of exorcism. In this case, Bori priests “tamed” spirits so they can use them in healing practices. The highest rank was held by a woman. She was called “Inna,” which translates as the mother of us all.
Igbo Religion
In Pre Colonial Era in Nigeria, Igbo people believed in Odinani. It`s the common name for the traditional Igbo religious practices. The main characteristic of this religion is a monotheistic attribute. They believed in one God, but he also had a lot of spirits (Alusi).
Igbo`s traditional beliefs in some contextual meaning can resemble Christian cosmology. They believed in one God called Chineke. He was a creator of everything on the Earth. At the same time, the world was divided into Human and Spirit world. When people died, they traveled to the spirit world.
Each person has a guardian spirit which was called Chi. Chineke or Chukwu assigned these spirits to every person. The closest concept to Chi spirit is the guardian angel in Christianity. This spirit also follows the person into the world of spirits. Igbo people believed that they could speak with ancestors who lived in the spirit world.
Alongside with Chukwu as a supreme spirit, there were other lesser spirits:
- Anyanwu – it`s the sun god. Together with Amadioha, he controls the weather;
- Amadioha – it`s the god of Sky. He was also a god of justice and lightening;
- Ana or Anada (can also be called Ani or Ala)– it`s the Earth Goddess;
- Ikenga – It`s the god of time and achievements. He had control over blacksmithing and farming;
- Ekwensu – It`s the god of war that was mostly honoured amongst warriors.
Igbo in Pre Colonial Nigeria also had a system of priests. They were divided into two types:
- Hereditary priests. They were mere servants of one particular god or spirit.
- Seers. These priests were empowered with justice functions. They had symbols of power and almost limitless authority.
Igbo people also had ancestral shrines. They tried to keep in touch with their ancestors by providing them offerings.
Yoruba Pre Colonial Nigeria Religion
Yoruba tribe continues to perform their practices which are connected with pre colonial religion in Nigeria. According to Yoruba cosmology, they are all part of Itan. It`s the complex cultural aspect that connects all Yoruba.
The key element of this religion is “Ayanmo” (destiny) which is possessed by every human being. It`s traditionally believed that the “Ayanmo” will be connected to the creator after death.
The main gods of Yoruba are Olodumare/Eledumare, Olorun and Olofi. Yoruba refer to these spirits as “it” or “they,” because they have no gender or number.
- Olodumare created everything in the world. When people die, their “Ayanmo” connects with the creator;
- Olorun is the ruler of heavens.
- Olofi serves as the conduit between two worlds. Orun or Heaven is the place where all gods and spirits live. Aye or Earth is the place for all humans.
There are also so-called Orisha. They are spirits which can travel between Orun and Aye. They can be servants of gods as well as just independent spirits. There are also Irunmole. These spirits are servants of Olorun. They are the messengers to the human realm.

The fascinating history of Oduduwa
The history of Yoruba people is probably one of the most fascinating ones out there. One of the particularly interesting elements is the history of Oduduwa. Check out this article to find out more about who (or what) Oduduwa was. We will tell you everything we know.
Who or what was Oduduwa?
So who or maybe even what was Oduduwa? Well, he was the progenitor of kings in Yorubaland and the first Ooni of Ile-Ife. You might also know this person as Odudua, Ooduwa or Oòdua. He is considered to be the founder of Yoruba race. He represents omnipotence, as well as the power of the womb.
According to some Yoruba traditionalists, Oduduwa was more than just the founder of Ile-Ife. They believe that he was responsible for its creation, as he was one of the deities responsible for the creation of earth. As the legend goes, Oduduwa was sent by Olodumare, Lord of the Skies, to finish the mission of his brother Obatala, King of White Clothes.
The latter was sent to earth to create land but got drunk from the palm wine he made himself from the newly grown palms. Thus, Oduduwa took over the mission and completed the task. It is also believed that when he descended to earth, he landed in Ile-Ife, which is why it is considered not only the spiritual heart of Yorubaland, but also the centre of the world.
But how did this person get to the point where people think of him as a deity? Let’s find out, as we continue with our short Oduduwa history.
How the Oduduwa story began

According to the oral history, Oduduwa’s father Lamurudu came from the east. Sources cannot agree whether he came from Arabia, present day southern Sudan, Benin, Egypt or Ethiopia, but they do agree that he was an important prince in his land.
When his position as a pagan was threatened by the arrival of Islam, Lamurudu decided to take his family to a new land. However, he was not able to finish the journey, which was where Oduduwa stepped up. When he brought his family to the present day Ile-Ife, he conquered the people who lived there before that and became the first Ooni (ruler) of Ife. This signified the start of the Yoruba dynasty and empire.
At the same time, Ife tradition tells a completely different story of how Oduduwa rose to greatness. According to it, he came from Oke-Ora, a community in the eastern part of the cultural area of Ife. He descended into the valley of Ile-Ife on a chain, which earned him the oriki Atenworo (literally meaning ‘one who descends on a chain’).
When Oduduwa arrived, there was a confederacy, which consisted of thirteen communities, each with their own Oba. After he cemented his position in Ife, Oduduwa with the help of his people conquered most of the communities, deposed Obatala and became the first Ooni of Ife.
Oduduwa in Yoruba history
During Oduduwa’s reign, the Yoruba people have risen and evolved. Unfortunately, there is very little information about the details of his reign, which is not surprising, considering how long ago it was and how contradictory the whole Oduduwa story is. That said, all agree that during his time as Ooni, Yorubaland (and particularly Ile-Ife) strived.
However, even great rules cannot live forever, so when he went to sleep with his fathers, his offspring dispersed across the land and took over the various city-states that they founded themselves. All of his children and grandchildren made their states in the image of Ile-Ife, that way consolidating the Yoruba confederacy of kingdoms.
Among his many children, Oduduwa had seven most prominent sons who, in turn, became the Olowu of Owu, Alaafin of Oyo, Orangun of Ila, Oba of Benin, Alaketu of Ketu, Olopopo of Popo and Onisabe of Sabe. Some people also like to include the Olu of Warri, Awujale of Ijebuland and Alake of Abeokuta to this list, but they are considered to have come at a later date.
This is all we know about the legendary Oduduwa. Did you know something new about him? Do you have some other fascinating stories to tell about him? Let us know in the comments. We would appreciate your feedback.

Edan [Onile] Orisa – Ogboni [Osugbo] – Yoruba History
ABORIGINE OGBONI HISTORY
Aborigine Ogboni history goes way back to the period of human ancient civilization in Ife-Oodaye. It goes way back before Oduduwa came to Ile-Ife.
WHO WAS ODUDUWA?
Oduduwa is Prince Ekaladerhan of Bini Kingdom who came to Ife by 900 years ago, overthrown Obatala and became king of Ife. Oduduwa is the father of all Yorubas.
ODUDUWA’S TRIBUTE TO HIS ANCESTORS IN IFE
Oduduwa kept a special seat of power to his ancestors in his palace in Ife as a great tribute to them. It is one of the most highly consecrated mysterious seat of powers in Ife that no mortal on earth can seat on it except the great King of Bini Kingdom that can seat on it.
Even the Oni of Ife who is the highest ranking king in the whole of Yorubaland is not qualified to seat on it and no other Yoruba kings like Alaafin of Oyo or other Obas in Yoruba land can seat on it. This mysterious seat of power, respect, honour and glory is not used to this very day by anyone but it is reserved only for the great King of Bini Kingdom that can use it as he pleases.
THE HISTORY OF YORUBA
Back then, there was nothing like Yoruba, the people that occupied the present geographical area of the present Yoruba land were called Ife and they spoke Ife language.
WHO ARE THE YORUBA’S?
The name Yoruba came into existence from Oduduwa who after conquering the land of Ife and it neighbouring environs, name them Yoruba for easy identification.
THE FALL OF IFE
It was in the reign of Obatala that Ife fell to the Bini prince Oduduwa who arrived at Ife with his followers for the sole purpose to become the king of Ife. He overthrown the existing King of Ife by launching sophisticated attacks on Ife and Obatala defense was no match to Oduduwa.
Back the, Obatala was the head of Ogboni in Ife and he used Ogboni members like Awo Ogboni, to fight Oduduwa wasnt a member of Ogboni
WHAT IS IYA OGBONI?
Since Obatala and his cabinets were no match to Oduduwa, Obatala resulted to other clever war tactics to discover the secrets of Oduduwa by sending one of the most beautiful lady in the world at that time to marry king Oranmiyan, son to Oduduwa and the name of this beautiful lady is Moremi from Ofa town. Iya Ogboni was named after queen Moremi from Ofa town who became the wife of King Oranmiyan son of Oduduwa.
OSUGBO / OGBONI IN IJEBU, EGBA, REMO…
Ogboni fraternity is also known as Osugbo in Ijebu, Egba, Remo and other Yoruba lands. In this part of Yoruba land, Ogboni operates more like an electoral council for electing Yoruba Kings and dethroning bad Yoruba kings, setting up good laws, setting up curfews in crisis, settling communities crisis…etc. They had strong social influence of the people in these part of the Yoruba land.
REFORMED OGBONI FRATERNITY HISTORY
Reformed Ogboni Fraternity also known as ROF was established in the year 1914 by an Anglican priest, Reverend Thomas Adesina Jacobson Ogunbiyi who reformed the rituals and symbols of Aboriginal Ogboni Fraternity which is also known as A.O.F.
The reason Reverend Thomas Adesina Jacobson Ogunbiyi reformed the rituals and symbols of Aboriginal Ogboni Fraternity was for ROF to be acceptable to Christians, Muslims and non-Yoruba. That was an excellent marketing strategy for ROF.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF OGBONI AND OSUGBO?
Ogboni means aged person: Ogbo means aged and eni means person. Osugbo means a person with gray head: Osu means tufts of hair on the head and gbo means old or gray.

Yemoja
Yemayá, Yemònja or Yemòja is the queen of the water and her body are all the rivers, lakes and sea flow from her.
Ye-mo-ja origins from the name Yeye–Omo-Eja, mother of the fish. The word Omo is used in a generic sense. Currently it is associated with the Ògún River and a cult pays in those areas where the river runs, particularly in Abeokuta.
Yemayá, Yemònja or Yemòja was born in the Takua land which is where the Ògún River begins in Nigeria. It is for this reason that this zone has turn to a place of pilgrimage for countless devotees.
Yemayá, Yemònja or Yemòja is as many other Òrisàs adored in different regions and has often different names or forms.

Ashamed she submerged into the river and went to live with Olókun using the name Somu Gaga and she only comes out from the ocean in very few occasions and from different places of the coast.
Yemayá, Yemònja or Yemòja is a deity who is associated with dolls, she is carved in precious wood or molded in white clay just like the one I have in my shrine decorated with cowries and she carries secret loads depending on the path she is meant for.
When she is on earth she enjoys living in the entrance of the bushes and she is a hard worker, she also trades food, dyed fabrics and makes oil out of melon seeds.

One day on her way home from the market afflicted she thought of how sad it was to be alone without children and husband to come home to. Ògún heard this and while he was on the same trail and felt a strong urge to married her.
He hugged her and told her; fear not, I know I look fierce and everyone fears me but I promise not to harm you and protect you as long as you promise me to never make fun of my bloodshot eyes.
Yemayá accepted and asked him to never touch her breast and for a long time they fulfilled these promises and Yemayá gave him many children.
One day, Ògún wanted to make something special to Yemayá and started to make her soup but because of his lack of experience he dropped the pot and it broke in thousand pieces as the food fell to the floor.
Yemayá who was resting woke up and run to the kitchen, when she saw the disaster that Ògún hade made, she yelled; what have you done with my kitchen, you with the bloodshot eyes.
Ògún felt ashamed on his knees and reached her to seek consolation, accidentally he touched her breast and she started to tremble.
At the blink of an eye she became water and disappeared, Ògún became very sad at the disappearances of his beloved wife and thought that the gentleness is not made for him, so he went to continue his agitated life as a warrior.

Olokun
Olokun Incantation
Olokun rhie egogo rrel, Rhie emaba rrel Niya gha ga okun mwenl E ni s’ede ehil E avba egbel Ewoe n’ ame
Olokun Incantation Translation
“Olokun bring the bell / Bring the iron rod / That I can use to serve my Olokun / So that I can live as my spirits wish / We have met ourselves / Spirits of the water”.
Olokun God / Goddess of The Sea
Olokun, God / Goddess of the sea is a powerful and benevolent deity who can give children, healing, wealth, riches, and other blessings to worshipers.
One of his praise names is Oba n’ Ame No Se No Rre Oke (The King of the Sea Is Greater Than the King of the Land).
Olokun has a palace of cowries in his kingdom beneath the sea, but the oba (king) of the land does not.
Olokun Worhsip Songs
A popular worship song praises his omnipotence:
A ighigbe oba n’ amel I vba oba n’ ame mwen
“You do not fight the king of the water / I come to meet the king of the water for help”.
Every ritual action performed, every object used, and every image drawn or painted in orhue on the floor of the shrine was a tool for conveying prayer.
Olokun worship is affected by the direction of the sun, time of day, and calendar day. The god is served either in the morning or in the evening as the sun begins to bend in the west.
Olokun Ceremonies
Worship and divination related to Olokun take place during daylight hours, except for special sacrifices, night dances held during annual festivals (Okpovbie O Ghe Ukpogbe), and the ceremony related to initiation (Na Na Khue Akhue Bo). River ceremonies for him occur on market days in Benin City and environs.
Because messages are customarily sent to the deity as the sun rises or sets, early-morning worship is of paramount importance to a member of the Olokun cult.
Olokun Alter
Generally, the floor in front of the altar is washed at the beginning of each day. In the morning, before a ceremony begins, a single design or group of orh ue images will be sifted or painted there.
Olokun Prayer And Invocation
During prayer an ohen (priest) may invoke various spirits that operate with Olokun in his palace beneath the sea, calling out their praise names, such as Oba n’ Ame (King of the Water), Eze n’ Unghegbe n’ Ebo (Glittering White River [That Reflects Heaven and Earth] or Adesukhunmwun (Stainless Sky).
As a direct salutation, while praying they may sift four or more parallel vertical lines in orhue on the floor as well as on shrine objects such as bases of water vessels and molded figures.
As the ceremony continues, Olokun can be invoked through the voice of a bell and a salutation song like this one: Okpe egogo ede gbel Okpe emaba ede gbel Okpe ukuse ede gbel Ede gbel Ede gbel Ede Oba gbel Ede Osa gbe (The bell ringer, the day has dawned / The drummer in charge of the drum-maraca, the day has dawned / The maraca player, the day has dawned / The day has dawned / The day has dawned / Oba’s day has dawned/ God’s day has dawned).
Orhue Iconography
Most orhue iconography can be classified as salutatory designs, serving designs, purification designs, or initiation designs.
Since I have already mentioned salutatory designs with an emphasis on ritual functions for Olokun, I offer a concise explanation of the other categories.
Olokun Serving Designs
These are used for invocatory purposes and for offering gifts to the spirit realm, erinmwin. We believe that the heavenly spirits must be fed so that they can carry out their work in the physical world.
When requesting aid, the ohen (priest) usually offers the heart, liver, breast, and left leg or wing of an animal sacrifice to the shrine.
Olokun Purification Designs
The ohen (priest) uses native chalk to make the body spiritually clean, so that his ability to receive clear visions and messages from the spirit realm is not hampered:
Incantation
Ihonmwen egbe n’ ebo mwen
Translation
I purify myself for my shrine.
Olokun Taboos
Without a purified body an ohen (priest) cannot be free to treat ill clients and select or prepare medicinal substances.
An ohen (priest) leads a disciplined life in which many taboos must be observed.
These vary with particular specialties of worship. When taboos are violated, by necessity or accident, purification may be necessary.
In addition, routine purification is a necessary aspect of anohen’s existence. It is typically carried out before traveling and before leaving the house to mix with other people, to collect medicinal substances, or to visit patients.
It is also performed after visiting with clients, after bathing, and at the end of an illness or menstruation. Dancing on a worship day or entering the shrine during a ceremonial day necessitates prior cleansing rites, as does the initiation of an ohen or novice into the Olokun cult.
Olokun Ritual Materials
The materials used in conjunction with purification prayers vary according to the complexity of the ritual.
In routine situations an ohen (priest) passes one alligator pepper seed in a circle over the head and then discards it.
At the end of the ritual, after chewing seven of these seeds, the priest sprays himself with the chewed seeds and saliva.
Olokun Powerful Incantation
An incantation like this one might be used:
Orhanl Obo kasal Owe kasa
Translation
“Freedom to clear oneself from taboos / To unite the hands to be active and free again / To unite the legs to be active and free again / To unite or unbind oneself from an unclean body.”
Olokun Rites
When the ohen (priest) is delivering a child, carrying out an initiation, or treating an illness that puts him at risk, the cleansing procedure becomes more involved.
Because its style is specific to each ohen, whose interpretation has been shaped primarily by those who initiated him, the following description should be regarded simply as one example of these rites.
The ohen (priest) draws a row of seven circles in native chalk in an open space outside facing either east or west- toward the sun. Between seven and fourteen cowries and sometimes coins are placed randomly within the designs.
As the ohen (priest) prays, he waves in circles overhead a stick of palm broom on which the shell of an egg (ehon okhokho) from a local breed of chicken has been placed.
The ohen priest continues this motion with the shell and stick as he walks or spins on one foot through each circle.
This action is repeated seven times as the ohen (priest) walks back and forth through the design, switching the stick between the right and left hand as his movements change direction. Then he faces the sun and blows impurities off the shell and stick.
Next, a one-day-old white chick (ovbi okhokho uko) is tied to afo and ikhinmwin leaves. Rotating this bundle over his head, the priest continues to walk through the design.
The chick is subsequently slaughtered, and the ohen smears its blood on his face and body: from the left to the right eye, then from the center of the forehead to the base of the neck, and on the ears, breast, navel, wrists, and ankles. The remains of the chick are thrown between the ohen’s spread legs from behind and then discarded.
Finally a few coins and large sacrificial cowries are added to a thin solution of chalk, wood ash, and water called Emuen O Gbe Awua (Ashes Kill Taboo).
The priest applies this solution to the body with afo leaves formed into a sponge shape, wiping the eyes from left to right, and sprinkling the head, body, hands, and legs.
In the last phase of this ritual, the ohen faces the sun, jumps, and sprays himself with seven alligator pepper seeds he has been chewing. The taboos are thereby released from his body. Afterwards the water is tossed from behind through the legs of the ohen, who always faces the sun.
Any cowries or coins that touch his legs or feet are kept as gifts for the shrine. In some instances an ohen may call on a colleague to assist in purification rites of this type.
Olokun Initiation Designs
Designs that appear in Olokun initiation for the priesthood function slightly differently from those used on other occasions: they identify the particular shrine in which the rituals associated with the initiation of a priest are occurring.
Usually a member of the initiating team of ohen (priest) is appointed to draw a series of floor designs for fourteen consecutive mornings in several locations including in front of the door of the celebrants’ room, the bath house, the house, and the shrine of the ohen (priest) in charge of the initiation.
Through these drawings, Olokun and associated spirits are constantly being invited into the shrine.
It is conventional practice to depict objects that are essential in worship, along with wave-like patterns and water imagery.
In the beginning rites of initiation into Olokun, the purification design involves fourteen chalk circles instead of seven.
They are drawn in two parallel rows, forming a channel between them through which the novice walks back and forth.
At the end of the ritual, the afo and ikhinmwin leaves, tied to a chick, are
swept around the feet of the novice while he stands in the middle of the channel.
Afterwards he jumps and spits out chewed alligator pepper seeds and sprays saliva.
The priest, standing back to back with the novice, throws the leaves through the novice’s legs while the latter straddles the design.
igha-ede is composed of two intersecting lines that form a cross. The cross may be circled at the end points and a
The space between earth and heaven is said to be divided by four pillars: Ikadele enene (ene) no da agbon yi.
Olokun Divination
Olokun worship requires the use of quartered kola nuts in prayer and sacrifice, and the sections are offered in pairs, either two or four at a time. They are also a tool in divination.
When the kola is split into four along natural lines, the faces will fall either up or down, resulting in two pairs of male and female sections, according to tradition.
How they fall determines whether the reading is positive or negative. The number four is also of great significance in daily life.
For example, the Edo week is divided into four days, and each day into four sections: morning, afternoon, evening, and night. In the traditional kitchen, cooking pots are set on four stones or four molded sand supports.
The igha-ede design represents a crossroads or junction, duality in nature, and the balance between positive and negative elements in the face of constant change.
Spirits congregate at junctions to either bless humans or tempt them into wrong doing or misfortune.
“Uhien, avbe ada mwen aro” (Even the junctions have eyes).
A simple cross configuration may symbolize the intersection of the earthly and otherworldly realms.
A person who stands in the center of the image can “cross over” and speak in erinmwin.
Through igha-ede, one can send the spirits messages as well as gifts of food and drink.
Olokun Healing
Those suffering from illness may be treated with special bathing preparations while standing at the intersection of the design and requesting aid.
Igha-ede can also deliver a message from Olokun to the ohen (priest) who owns the shrine in which the design operates.
An expression commonly recited in prayer refers to directional points:
Incantation
Ekpen vbe orie laho, ghegun mwen deyu unu agbon
Translation
“East and West, I beg you; do not let me fall into the mouth of the world.”
In other words the priest is asking the spirits to keep him (or his client) from falling into the hands of enemies.
The concept of directions and their implied intersection, and of the division into physical and spiritual realms, is evident in various rituals.
While in trance, a priest may salute all spirits present in all corners of the world by offering them ground orhue.
He may dance to the perimeters of the compound beyond the shrine and blow orhue from his palm or fan to the north, south, east, and west.
Therefore, just as igha-ede indicates the division of physical space, it can also divide psychic space that is spiritually charged.
In order to improve one’s condition, one must offer Olokun sacrificial gifts revealed through divination.
Olokun Exorcism
In a group situation, however, the ohen may use his rattle staff (ukhurhe), which is usually carved with decorative patterns, to drive evils from the heads of celebrants and to appeal to the spirits until appropriate sacrificial offerings can be made.
The officiating priest may call for his ukhurhe during an Ugie (weekly ceremony) and recite:
Incantation
Esell ghi lele mwenl Lele mwen omol
Eseghi lele mwen Ese ghi lele uwal Lele uwa
omo oool Ese ghi lele uwa
Translation
“Sacrifices won’t follow me/ Won’t follow my child/ Sacrifices won’t follow you all / Won’t follow your children / Sacrifices won’t follow you all.”
While the priest asks the spirits to protect all those present, he passes the ukhurhe in a circular movement over the heads of the participants as they bend
down.
Afterwards the ohen walks to the nearest junction and blows the impurities off the staff. While dancing the ohen (priest) may request that a drink be served to the spirits present.
He passes a glass filled with gin over the heads of those in attendance and pours it on the ground at the nearest crossroads. The following song precedes this:
Incantation
Okun mwen d’ayonl Daghorome, Daghorome dal Gha dal Gha da, akudal Gha da, gha da, akudal Ayon ma gbe erha mwenl Ayon ma
Translation
“My Olokun, come and drink this wine for me / Be drinking, be drinking, be drunker/ Be drinking, be drinking, be drinking, be drunker / Wine did not kill my mother / Wine did not kill my father / Be drinking, be drinking; Nothing happens to a basket suspended in air / Water for washing hands is floating in circles”.
Sango (Shango / Chango) Orisa – History Of “God Of Thunder”
Video Player
00:08

There are several versions of Shango history but two of these versions are most popular in yorubaland. Namely the secular Shango history and priestly Shango history
SECULAR SANGO (CHANGO / SHANGO) ORISA HISTORY
About two centuries ago, there reigned a King in the old town of Oyo (known to early explorers as Eyeo of atunga) which was situated near the south bank of the river Niger to the north of the Yoruba country.
Shango was a powerful and wise monarch. He was a great medicine man (witch-doctor) and was able to kill people by ejecting fire from his mouth. His reign was tyrannical and cruel.
He had two chief ministers of whom he was jealous and set these to fight against each other, hoping both might be slain but he was himself deposed by the one who came off victor in the fight.
Shango fled, accompanied by his three wives, Oya, Oshun and Oba and some of his most loyal followers. He wandered in the bush, being gradually deserted by all until only his favorite wife, Oya, remained.
Then in despair, Shango hung himself from a tree. Oya fled north and became presiding goddess of the river Niger.
Travelers who had seen the body of Shango hanging from a tree entered the town and reported “0ba so” i.e. “the King has hanged himself.” This report spread throughout the town.
The friends of Shango were so incensed that they determined to avenge their deceased monarch. They took a number of small calabashes or hollow gourds and filled them with gunpowder.
They then covered them with coconut fiber and put slow matches to them and waited for the next tornado. When hurricane came, they ignited the bombs and threw them into the thatched roofs of many houses.
The resultant explosions and fires caused the panic-stricken people to cry out, “Why are all our houses burning?” The friends of Shango then came forward, saying, “Oh, you said Oba so” “the King has hanged himself”
“0ba ko so!” “the King has not hanged himself”. i.e “he is angry with you for this.” He has became a god and has gone up into heaven and sent down the lightning to punish you.
You must bring out oxen, sheep, fowls, palm oil……… etc and offer sacrifices to him and henceforth worship him and then he will forgive you.”
Thus they established the worship due him as an orisha.
PRIESTLY SANGO (CHANGO / SHANGO) ORISA HISTORY
But the Shango story as above will not be acceptable to the priestly house of Koso in Oyo. There the orthodox story is mainly as follows:
Two of Shango wives were very quarrelsome; and there were also a few complaints from the subjects of Shango concerning his tyranny. Shango became angry with everybody, mounted his horse and went into the forest.
For a long time he was expected back but in vain. When he did not return, people feared that he had gone in a fit of temper to hang himself. So they went in search of him; he was not found but his horse was.
The searchers therefore called out; “Where are you, O king? Have you hanged yourself?” To which he replied from a long distance; “NO, I have not hanged myself!” Then come back to us, we want you” they called back.
But he replied; “NO, since there has been so much trouble in the land and so many complaints against me from you all, I will not come back to you; I will now rule you unseen.”
So he ascended to heaven by a chain which sprang from a tree. From heaven he have since then manifested his kingship by lightning and thunder.
One can understand why the priestly house of Koso stick to this “orthodox” version of the account of the apotheosis of Shango!
Whatever version of the story is told, the important thing is that people became convinced that Shango ascended to heaven and that he became the god of thunder, lightning and brimstone.
NOTE ~ Now that you have read the secular and priestly version of Shango history, so which of these versions do you believe?
Ogun
Ogun is an Orisha, Loa and Vodun. He is a warrior and a powerful spirit of metal work, war, hunting, civilization and as well as rum-making.
Ogun is a primordial Orisha who first appeared as a hunter named Tobe Ode. He was the husband of Oya. He is the first Orisha to descend to the realm of Ile Aiye “Earth” to find suitable place for future human life.
He was the one that cleared the path for other gods to enter Earth using a metal ax and with the assistance of a dog. To commemorate this, one of his praise names or oriki is Osin Imole or the “first of the primordial Orisha to come to Earth”. He is the god of war and metals.
In his earthly life Ogun is the first king of Ife. When some of his subjects failed to show respect, Ogun killed them and ultimately himself with his own sword. He disappeared into the earth at a place called Ire-Ekiti with the promise to help those who call on his name.
Ogun have “wo ile sun” to have disappeared into the earth’s surface instead of dying. Throughout his earthly life, he fought for the people of Ire, thus is known also as Onire. He is now celebrated in Nigeria.

Ogun Functions
The unique function of Ogun within the realm of Orisa Awo is to remove all obstacles that stand in the way of spiritual evolution, which includes the evolution of all there is.
In order to do this, Ogun must sacrifice all that stands in the way of spiritual evolution.
Because of this sacred responsibility, Ogun is considered the Guardian of Truth.
Ogun does not protect the truth as what we would like it to be; he guards the truth of what is.
It is the process of making this distinction that lies at the core of Ogun’s mystery.
Ogun Orisa
Ogun is one of the oldest Orisa. He is the Spirit of hunting, iron, and warfare. Ogun is the force which helped humans adapt to the world.
Ogun Ase
Ogun’s ase is physical force, hotness, quickness, directness, sensuality, firmness, protectiveness, loyalty and tenacity.
Ogun is firm, forthright and honest. He has no mercy on cowards. He is supremely creative.
When we think of Ogun, usually two main concepts come to mind; two different images.
Two Aspect Of Ogun
First is as a violent warrior, fully armed with weapons and charms, and ready for battle. The other is as the ideal man, virile, courageous, brave, a man who protects and nurtures his children, who pursues truth and justice relentlessly, and creates civilization.
Ogun Three Basic Philosophical Principles
In Ogun we find three basic philosophical principles regarding idealized human. One is Ogun is metaphorical solitude. Each of us, in the end, are on a solitary journey, the hero’s journey to self realization. We are also ultimately responsible for our day to day survival supported by our own inner strength.
Another principle regarding the ideal human is taking a leadership role, extending our responsibility for self to that of the community or group.
The third is iwa pele. We will be judged by our achievements and accomplishments both at the individual level but more importantly in service to others. Although seemingly paradoxical, these themes of aggression and civilization are actually complementary. War is an act of civilization building. Creating societies is a violent act.
Ogun Basic Truth
Ogun’s basic truth is that death is essential to life. When is death good and when is it bad? Ogun is an ambivalent Orisa who reflects the contradictions of human nature.
Ogun Prayer
The light shining on Ogun’s face is not easy to behold
Ogun, let me not see the red of your eye
Ogun is a crazy Orisa who still asks questions after 780 years!
Whether I can reply, or whether I cannot reply
Ogun, please don’t ask me anything
Ogun The Many Face God
Ogun has many faces: “Ogun meje l’Ogun-un mi.” “The Ogun that I know are seven in number.”
Ogun is the Spirit of Iron, and we can analyse the qualities of iron to get a glimpse of Ogun’s qualities.
Iron is unique in its ability to be transformed in profound ways. It can go from red hot liquid to cold and unyielding very quickly.
It always maintains its inner “ironess” through all its transformations. The incredible ability to undergo radical changes in temperature, color, and temper are the essence of iron and Ogun.
The tools made from iron also reflect Ogun, as they are
The tools made from iron also reflect Ogun, as they are usually used in quick strong, decisive movements.
However, to limit Ogun to the Spirit of Iron, is to cut short his history, as iron smelting is a recent technological achievement.
Ogun God Of War
Similarly, to reduce Ogun to the God of War, is to limit his divine responsibilities.
Orisa exist at all levels and expressions of the divine, in creation and in the invisible realm.
Ogun Primal Energy
At the level of universal energy, Ogun is primal energy; the expansive and unstoppable energy of evolution. Ogun is that force of nature that keeps matter in motion.
Ogun is always bringing something new into the world, whether it be a new political order, a new technology or a new settlement.
The Meaning Of Ogun
The word Ogun, with the appropriate tonal changes, can be translated to mean war, inheritance, medicine and perspiration. Once Olodumare gives a being life, it is Ogun who sustains that organism.
Story Of Ogun
In a well known itan (story) from the Yoruba creation myth, Ogun came to earth with the other 401 irunmole.
Obatala came down to the world first, but when he started to cut his way through the forest, his silver cutlass was not up to the task (too soft).
So Ogun took over with his iron cutlass. Ogun took the leadership role and directed the other irunmole.
Ogun’s philosophy is that we must act with courage and heroism in living and in dying while serving the needs of the community.
This story also suggests that Obatala created human consciousness, but Ogun is the force behind its evolution.
Ogun is the instigator of beginnings, foundings and innovations.

Ogun The Orisa Of Making Ebo (blood offerings)
Ogun Ebo Orisa
Ogun is also the Orisa in charge of making ebo (blood offerings). In this area he works closely with Esu.
Initiates learn the awo of ebo. That is, the successful elevation of the spirit of the animal to Orun with the prayers of the person for whom the ebo is being done, as well as the request that the animal return to earth to feed the people again.
This last aspect is part of Ogun’s role as that force that pushes living things to continue to procreate.
The assurance that the animal will return assures that there will be food to eat and the species will not die out.
Ogun The Hunter And Warrior
However, it is most probable that Ogun became Orisa through hunters and warriors.
Most cultures have a way established to readmit warriors back into society after battle.
This involves some manner of ritual purification for the warriors after killing in battle. In Yoruba culture, it is the Ogun worshipers that carry out this task.
It would seem that hunting, killing and the need to re-establish order from the disorder of death are the conceptual roots of Ogun (Armstrong).
When we speak of Orisa, it can be confusing because we refer to Orisa in several ways without making clear distinctions.
Orisa bring together experience from both the worldly and spiritual realms.
Ogun Multifaceted And Multidimensional Qualities
So we have Ogun as a primal energy; as a force of nature; as a highly evolved spirit given a job to do by God; as a personified diety, etc.
The multifaceted and multidimensional qualities of Orisa are what render any explanation wanting.
Ogun Possession
Truthfully, the only way to know Ogun or any Orisa is through possession by that Orisa, the point where knowledge and understanding merge. Any endeavor to interpret Ogun will be incomplete.
Ogun The Blood Thirsty Warrior And Nurturing Protector
Yoruba cosmology relates that in “Source” there is unity, but in the physical realms polarities are created and these polarities are in constant flux.
This is why Orisa seem to be illogical or contradictory at times, for instance Ogun as blood thirsty warrior and as nurturing protector.
Ogun Kills And Create
All Orisa contain both positive and negative attributes. Ogun kills and he creates. Yoruba thought regards truth as ephemeral, and good and evil as subjective.
Ogun Helps The Poor
Ogun kills your enemy; this is good for you, but an act of evil to your enemies’ wife and children.
He helps the poor and the powerless by taking from the rich and powerful.
Ogun Destruction And Creation
In Ogun, rather than illogical opposites, we have the unity of destruction and creation.
Through Ogun, this polarity is brought into balance. All Orisa represent polarities and all Orisa provide a theory of how the world works; how balance is achieved both at the universal level, at the societal level, and at the human level.
Ogun Esoteric Information
The following itan of Ogun is full of esoteric information regarding this Orisa.
The story is that once upon a time, Ororinna married Tabutu, and they had a son named Tobi Ode (skilled hunter).
He became the first Orisa to make the trip from ikole Orun to ikole Aye. The earth was covered with dense forest.
The other irunmole followed. Obatala tried to cut a path through the forest, but his silver cutlass was too soft.
Tobi created iron and made a cutlass that he used to cut through the forest. From that day on, he was known as Ogun, osin imole, “first among the immortals.”
But Ogun did not want to be their leader, he preferred solitude so he went up in the mountains.
Ogun Primordial Role
Ogun in this primordial role as evolutionary energy is mirrored at the human level.
Ogun is the hunter / warrior who encapsulates the evolutionary progression from hunting to agriculture and from stone tools too iron, from subsistence horticulture to urbanization and the development of empire.
Ogun Of Excellence
Ogun is the symbol of excellence, of the superior, conquering soOgun is the symbol of excellence, of the superior, conquering society. One of Ogun’s primary symbols is the knife (Obe). It is because of this that a major contradiction arises.
Ogun Eats First
Ogun eats first, because the knife is the first thing to taste blood in any sacrifice. It is said that Esu must eat first, and in ritual feasts and bloodless offerings, he is presented his food first.
However, in blood offerings it is Ogun, the only one allowed to take a life, who eats first, and it is because of him that the other Orisa can be fed blood.
Ogun The Father Of Metamorphosis
Ogun is the father of metamorphosis, because with his great strength and with the aid of intense heat, he transforms carbon into diamonds, sandstone into marbles, and marble into gneiss.
Ogun The Sustainer Of Life
Over time and space, Ogun has taken on more facets. Ogun is the God of War, Energy and Metal. Ogun keeps matter in motion. Ogun is the sustainer of life.
Ogun Clears Path
Ogun lives in the knife, and with it, clears a path for man. Ogun is the force within your computer.
Ogun is technology. Ogun represents the tools that shape man, bringing out a person’s potential, enhancing one’s life.
Ogun Auto Accident And Gun Wounds
Ogun is our heart beat and the final contraction during birth. Ogun is auto accidents and gun wounds. Ogun is the warrior, hunter and farmer. Ogun is the God of loyalty and life-long friendships.
Ogun Master Of Secrets
Ogun is the master of secrets, skills, crafts, professions and creations. In Cuba Ogun is San Juan or San Pedro. In Brazil he is Saint George.
Ogun Devotees
Ogun devotees have decorations of miniature iron tools which serve as metaphors for civilization.
In the Diaspora, they have taken to contain Ogun in an iron pot with iron tools inside along of course with the stone.
Ogun Main Tools
The main tools of Ogun are the anvil, which signifies the earth’s ability to transform man.
The shovel: which is used fir digging into one’s potential; the machete, which is used to clear path’s and to protect.
The rake: which is used to gather and smooth rough areas of the self.
The hoe: which is used to cultivate one’s potential.
The hammer: which is used to bend or shape one’s faculties; and the pick, which is used to pierce or penetrate the hardened areas of the self.
Ogun Orisa of Civilization
The implements are gifts of Ogun which he uses to help a person through life.
They are metaphors for civilization. Ogun represents all occupations in which cutting instruments are used.
Ogun And Divinties
Ogun helped the divinities to survive in their initial settlement on earth and to effect harmony among themselves as they struggled with new and unforeseen circumstances.
Ogun Orisa Of Occupation
Ogun is the Orisa of barbers, doctors, butchers, etc., any occupation that uses knives or blades, or iron tools.

Ogun And Other Orisa
No Orisa stands alone, they are all part of a whole. Ogun’s iron tools connect him in many ways to other Orisa. Ogun needs Sango’s fire to make iron from ore as well as to make iron into tools and weapons.
Ogun And Osanyin
Ogun has a strong connection with Osainyin, the Orisa of the herbalists. Osainyin devotees have a staff which has miniature iron implements as well as a bird on top. The bird represents the mystical powers of the herbalists.
The Ogun miniature implements represent Ogun’s relationship to the herbalists as warriors receive war charms and protective medicines from the herbalists.
And it is Ogun’s ase that is in the charms and medicines (hunters also have many charms and medicines).
Ogun Iron Armlets
Much of the warriors and hunters success depends on the efficacy of his charms.
Ogun’s iron armlets could deflect the enemies sword from the warriors body and even divert bullets.
Ogun Sword
Ogun’s sword best represents his ase. It contains the essence of the twin aspects of aggression and civilization.
It cleared the forest and built the house; it cleared the farm and planted the crops; and it defeated the enemy and crowned the king.
Although the Iyami possess the king’s crown and thus are the kingmakers, the king must be given Ogun’s sword in ritual setting before he can sit on the throne.
Ogun Initiates
Hunters who are Ogun initiates learn the secrets of Oya, who is the Spirit of the Wind and also the Guardian of the Forest Animals. In addition, they must undergo training in the secrets of tracking of Osoosi.
In this way, we see that Orisa are parts of a whole. Ogun also has a symbiotic relationship with Esu.
Together with Osoosi, the Spirit of the Tracker, they constitute the ebora, the warriors.
They are invoked to provide us the courage, determination and strength to embark on the path of birth, death, transformation and rebirth.
Ogun Qualities
These qualities are expansive aggressive qualities and thus the ebora are male energies, but the inspiration to embark on the path and the source of the ebora’s strength comes from the Divine Feminine.
The relationship between the ebora is a description of the fundamental structure of consciousness itself. This description is not limited to human perception.
It contains clues for grasping the basic structure of the visual carbon based universe.
The paradigm is rooted in the structure of ori. The stories associated with Èsù, Òsóòsi and Ogun are expressions of the symbolic language used by Ifá to describe the inner workings of the unknowable knower.
The relationship between these three primal Spiritual Forces is an expression of the relationship between the inner self, the self and the higher self in the process of transformation and change.
All personal growth moves through the cycles described by Ifá as or the mystery of those who take our offerings to the Immortals.
Life, death, transformation and rebirth is the way of the world. The Nigeria mathematician Dr. Oyibo recently offered a solution to the problem of unified field theory.
This problem has plagued science since the time of Einstein. Unified field theory is a mathematical formula used to describe the interrelated nature of all things.
In an interview Dr. Oyibo said the inspiration for his solution to this problem came from the elders of Ifá.
Exactly, the Universe is hydrogen atoms going through the process of life, death, transformation and rebirth
Stars are huge furnaces that transform hydrogen into the spectrum of elements.
Fire creates diversity, water creates stability, air sustains life, and life returns to its source.
Our consciousness reflects this cycle because it is born of Creation. Consciousness did not become manifest in the world with the birth of humans it came into Being at the moment of Creation of the Universe. Everything is Spirit looking for a glimpse of Source.
Ogun Iwa Pele
Ogun is a shining example of iwa pele, but is not in any way perfect (in his anthropomorphic self).
He (and his children) is not afraid to be himself. Like iron, he is rigid, self assured, and unyielding.
Because he is untiring, deliberate and focused, he accomplishes all that he sets out to do.
He is strength, but used creatively. Ogun is very creative. Children of Ogun, when trying to figure out how to accomplish something will always think of the physical first.
They like to use their hands and their strength. Others marvel at the untiring energy of his children.
Ogun sees and makes his own way. He is economy in action; no wasted motion, catch only what you are going to eat.
Ogun Champion Of Laborers
Ogun is the champion of laborers everywhere. One praise name of Ogun is Ogun Onire; Ogun as the source of good fortune. What is being alluded to here is suuru, patience, as the source of ire.
Usually, when divination speaks of patience as related to a problem, it is saying look to Ogun for help.
At the core of Ogun’s ase is the slow, steady willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Ogun is the metaphoric representation of transformation brought about by human effort.
This benevolent aspect of Ogun is illustrated in a verse from Ogunda Meji:
Alagbara ni noskun Ade was the one who divined for Ogun. He was advised to sacrifice a cutlass, a rooster and a roasted yam. Ifa said that he must always go about with his cutlass because it would be the key to his prosperity. He was told to eat the roasted yam. He did so. He was thirsty after this and he went to the river to drink water.
As he finished drinking he saw two people fighting over a fish they caught. He advised them to be patient and go home and share the fish. They ignored him. The first man told him he came from the east and the second from the west.
After listening to their arguments, Ogun became agitated and, to the surprise of the two men, took out his cutlass and cut the fish in two. He told each to take half.
The first thanked him and requested him to open a foot-path from where they were to his town and that he would enrich his (Ogun’s) life if he did.
He further said that Ogun would receive valuable things that would give him confidence. The other one also thanked him and made the same request. Ogun agreed and he has been known as “Ogun-da-meji” (Ogun creates two), since the day he cut the fish into two.
“Ko si gba ta o ni ku”
Death is the inevitable fate of all humans.
Ogun Popular Village
There is a popular story of Ogun killing an entire village. He started out protecting the village but loses control. In another version, he kills whole village because of a perceived slight.
In both mythical proverbs he moves to the Bush to live alone. One aspect of the story is Ogun’s destructive capacity, that one must be careful when unleashing these forces and the need to remain emotionless, or disconnected.
At the metaphysical level, Ogun’s agressive nature signifies the will to survive that exists in all living things. In addition the story speaks to political conflict.
The story also speaks to the nature of truth, and the need to be adaptable to new realities, and relates that there is no perfect balance between being in control and out of control.
It is by understanding the constructive-destructive cycle of self transformation that each individual must experience for growth that we can understand Ogun the Orisa.
Ogun shows us how to balance the need for constraint with the need for freedom.
Where does one meet him?
One meets him in the place of battle
One meets him in the place of wrangling
One meets him in the place
Where torrents of blood fill with longing
As a cup of water does the thirsty
Ogun Raw Energy
Ogun as raw creative energy is not fit to be within civilization, that is to be King like his “brother’ Sango. Sango incorporates Ogun’s war powers and creative abilities, but tempered by Obatala.
Ogun Color
So Ogun’s color is red, then Sango white and red, and then Obatala, white. It is like a continuum from the rawness of Ogun to the cool wisdom of Obatala. Even the great leader Sango messed up real bad.
He dies and was subsequently reborn with a wider consciousness and closer to Obatala (with Oya’s help).

Ogun Orisa Of Justice
Ogun is stickler for justice. Children of Ogun feel the need for justice, and find it very difficult to ignore injustice.
He is truth. In Nigeria, Ogun’s symbol, iron, is used voluntarily in courts of law for the taking of oaths by witnesses to affirm that the truth will be told (like Christians do with the bible).
Few people, who believes in Orisa, would dare lie after swearing to tell the truth on Ogun.
When Ifa speaks of truth, it does not mean some idealistic vision of the way things should be.
Ogun searches for the truth about the way things really exist in the world. Ogun represents the power of the Spirit of Evolution to mold new life forms and new structures as creation unfolds.
Ogun is a fundamental force of natural law, and is used as a symbol for truth.
Ogun Obstacles Removal
Many people appeal to Ogun to remove obstacles, both spiritual and physical obstacles.
This causes Ogun to get a bad name, because people don’t understand what they are asking for.
More often than not, the obstacle in question is within the person his / herself. Since Ogun removes the obstacles regardless, if we are not ready to face truth, the process can be painful.
Ogun And Ogboni Fraternity
Yet another aspect of Ogun is his place in Ogboni, the cult of elders that worship the earth, called Onile.
Onile is the feminine aspect of Ogun. Being the earth diety and associated with Ogun, gives us the best evidence yet of Ogun’s ancient roots.
Ogun Female Devotees
Woman devotees of Ogun used to worship Ogun in the form of a snake, usually a python.
As we know, the python is associated with Osumare, the feminine diety. Snake dieties are usually associated with the earth.
Maybe it is this connection that led to Ogun being a part of the Ogboni earth cult. Ogun’s connection to the feminine earth diety.
Ogun In Diaspora
Ogun in the diaspora is usually seat in an iron pot with three legs, wrapped with a chain and filled with spikes. There is usually a knife and maybe some tools in the pot.
What do these things represent? With the pot, we have the symbolism of the womb, and we also have the idea of three legs. Three is symbolic number of Onile or Mother Earth.
Ifá says that whenever two Awo (diviners) meet three are always present, the third being the Earth Herself.
Three symbolizes the relationship to the Earth this gives us the symbol of the womb supported by the symbol for the Earth a clear indication of the relationship between masculine dynamics and feminine form.
The pot is surrounded by a chain. In Ifá the chain is used as symbol for the link between Heaven and Earth, a link that is sustain by the genetic chain of DNA.
There is a piece of red cloth around the pot which is filled with iron spikes. There is some scientific indication the rust on the iron deposits at the bottom of the ocean created bacteria which became the source of the first single cell life forms on Earth.
This would be the beginning of evolution and the basis for Ogun´s praise name Oguntobi meaning Ogun is the Father of all.
The seed of life in the womb of the ocean is now symbolized by the iron spikes in the iron cauldron of Ogun.
Ogun Pot
In the pot iron spikes or tools symbolize sperm in the womb. The female component of Ogun is diminished in the West.
Ogun Pot Consecration
What is used to consecrate an Ogun pot is irosun. This irosun is red powder from the cam wood tree.
In Yoruba the word is sometimes used to refer to menstrual blood from the elision ire osun meaning good fortune that comes from the guardian of the head which I would interpret to mean genetic inheritance from our ancestors.
If you are putting red cam wood powder on the Ogun pot you are symbolizing the primal procreative drive for survival.

He is looked to for justice within society, and protection from outside enemies.
However, Ogun’s hot temper makes him a dreaded figure. While he protects the innocent, the poor, victims of military attack, he inflicts pain on others; the deceitful, the rich who don’t share, and one’s enemies in warfare. Ogun is a solitary figure who lives alone in the forest.

Osanyin The Orisa Of The Forest
Osanyin is the Orisa of the forest (some say he is ebora), and the abundant flora found within. He has a very close relationship with Orunmila.
The forest is believed to have great power, and an incredible amount of knowledge resides within it, in the form of medicines, etc.
Plants Supernatural Power
The plants of the forest constitute a direct emanation of the supernatural power of the earth fertilized by the rain.
This power can be used in many ways. Each leaf, stem and root in the forest possesses unique virtues.
When combined with other plants, they form medicinal or magical preparations.
These preparations are of great importance to the traditional medicine men and women as well as the various Orisa cults.
Osanyin Powers
The liquids within the leaves, roots, etc., contain powerful transformative ase. Osanyin possesses a power, that like that of the Iyaami, can be extremely beneficial; and it can also be equally dangerous.
Osanyin Non-surgical Healing Power Of Herbs And Powders
Osanyin deals with the non-surgical healing power of herbs and powders. Osanyin is the herbal cure and the poisonous mushrooms. Like the Iyaami cult, the Osanyin cult is secretive and somewhat mysterious.
Osanyin Pot
Osanyin’s pot is usually accompanied by a gourd (igba Osanyin or seere), similar to the igbadu. This gives us an idea of the power of Osanyin.
Osanyin Four Elements Leaves
The leaves are categorized in four groups, corresponding to the four elements, water, air, earth and fire. So we have; ewe afeefe (leaves of air-wind); ewe inon (leaves of fire); ewe omi (leaves of the water); and ewe ile or ewe igbo (leaves of the earth and of the forest).
Other classifications that we have related to the leaves are; masculine and feminine; cooling (ero) or heating (gun); and positive or negative.
In Yoruba cosmology, it is believed there are feminine and masculine, or positive and negative forces in nature.
Both are believed to co-exist in all things and are necessary to existence. People, plants, animals and everything else can be either positive or negative.
Men are regarded as negative and women as positive. This point is lost on many who have been taught the opposite.
Osanyin Herbal Medicines
Osanyin is the repository of vast information on herbal medicines used to cure illness as well as influence supernatural powers. Herbal preparations go hand in hand with powerful incantations, called ofo ase.
Ebora
Women are regarded as delicate physically, but spiritually powerful. In fact, women of child bearing age are called Ebora, which is also what we call certain powerful deities like Osoosi, ogun, etc.
Ebora also is the word for what they call it in the diaspora “the warriors.”
Spiritual Beings
Women, then, are seen as powerful spiritual beings. This is why for many ritual tasks, women cannot be present, especially if menstruating. Their power will render the ritual ineffective.
Masculine Medicines
Masculine medicines are mostly negative. they are volatile in preparation and use. Some of these are called abilu – to push negativity to someone,
Masculine Charms
Apeta: To spiritually shoot an arrow at someone (send them sickness, loss, etc)
Aasan: negative curse
Ajatuka: To cause two people to fight
Feminine Medicine
These masculine incantations cannot be said by women or even when they are within hearing distance.
Feminine Charms
Feminine medicine is principally used for healing. The herbs used to make ifa’s ewe are feminine.
The gender of herbs is very important when preparing medicine for a client.
Masculine And Feminine Plant
One plant might have both masculine and feminine parts. Usually leaves are feminine and roots and bark are masculine. Another determiner of masculinity is if the plant stings our skin.
Orisa Plants
Many plants are linked to Orisa; that is, every Orisa has certain plants associated with it, with the attributes of that Orisa.
These plants, like ofo ase (the power of the word), add power and efficacy to our communication with Orisa (Odetumbi).
Osanyan is the forest and controls the power within. Osanyin protects against witchcraft.
Osanyin protects against nightmares. Osanyin is the cool rational thinking one can attain in the quiet of the forest.
Osanyin Mind Altering Drugs
He is the power of mind altering drugs. Like all Orisa, Osanyin has a right hand and left hand path; right is healing and knowledge; left is protection.
Osanyin is that aspect of energy that encompasses the medicinal and protective (charms) powers of vegetation.

Osanyin Patron Of Beads
Osanyin is also the patron of beads. He came into this world covered in dazzling beads.
The multi-colored beads of his ileke are representative of all the leaves in the forest.
The Leaf Of Divination
In addition, he also has an ileke which is shared with Orunmila, which are yellow and green.
In a relevant Itan it is said that: At the beginning, divination priests and herbalists (they work together) went to Ifa, the oracle.
Ifa gave them strands of alternating green and yellow beads, saying, “This is your sign.” These beads stand for Ewe Ifa, the leaf of divination.
Osun (Staff)
Some interpret the Osun (staff) as a symbol for Osanyin who in the above itan (story) becomes arrogant and learns humility by losing an eye an arm and a leg.
The pole represents Osanyin with one eye one arm and one leg or Osanyin after he has learned the lesson of humility (however, in odu there are references to Osanyin without the deformities, so perhaps different incarnations).
In this story is the idea of knowledge of herbs coupled with humility leading to altered states that include astral travel.
It is also symbolic of the idea that astral travel is a function of right brain activity or half the body.
Ifa symbolism more often than not contains several layers of meaning. In addition, the reference to the diviner and Osanyin working together is another reminder of the symbiotic relationship between Osanyin and Orunmila.
Orunmila And Osanyin
Orunmila and Osanyin work together in traditional Yoruba healing technology.
Orunmila has a vast knowledge of plants and their healing properties along with Osanyin.
People go to the babalawo for divination and healing, but must pay homage to Olubikin Osanyin-bikin, the orisa of the forest and all plants. He was the first to harvest medicinal leaves and roots.
Osanyin’s name is linked with the sound of the agogo gong (dance bell of power), which is linked with a leaf, agogo igun (vulture’s beak – the vulture is a symbol for the Aje), used to turn away evil.
The sound of the agogo communicates immediate aural pleasure to Aje – the witches, better referred to as awon iya wa (our mothers), “Iyaami” (my mother, Spirit Bird) or “eleiye” (owners of birds) – calming there destructive powers.
The following chant comes from Okanran Oturupon, the Odu that invokes or incarnates Osanyin.

Osoosi
Osoosi is the Òrìsà that represents the hunting but also watchfulness, acting similar to a police officer that protects the habitants of one area.
That is the reason for creating an altar together with Ògún and Èsù-Elégbára so that he also can protect the habitants of one area, from beasts, witchcraft and robbers.
He is also the one that owns the prisons, he decides if somebody is set to be free or locked down. On the other hand as a hunter, he is the one who brings abundance of mainly meat. The story says that he was one of the kings of Ketu.
Osoosi Food
Leopards and pets belong to Òsóòsì and he receives goats, fish, yam, corn, beans, among other things. He shares his meals with Ogún and Èsu-Elégbara, because he has the same food, they are inseparable friends and they also belong to the same Klan of the Warriors.
Even dough Òsóòsì is equipped with Ode because of the similar functions and characteristic, they are really two different entities. One of the differences is that Òsóòsì origins from Etu, meanwhile Odes origins from Egba-Egbado.
Osoosi The Hunter
The sons of Òsóòsì are known for being the prototype of a primitive hunter, people that are known for being alert, fast and good at taking the initiative. They enjoy changes, new businesses. They are welcoming and they also love the family.
They greet each other by lifting the left leg and imitate the shooting with an arrow with their hands. He is an old Òrìsà and the son of Yemònja, he is the patron of the ones who has problems with justice and he is a good magician, soothsayer, warrior, hunter and fisherman.
Òsóòsì is the greatest of hunters and his arrows never fail. There was a time when he was not able to reach his catch, because of the thickness of the bush, he asked Òrúnmila for advice and was recommended to do ebo.
Osoosi And Ogun
Òsóòsì and Ògún where enemies because of a Sisán that Èsù had provoked, but Ògún had a similar problem, even though nobody could make trails in the bush as fast as Ògún could, he was not able to kill his prey as Òsóòsì could.
So both rivals went to the bush and started talking to each other, while they were talking they saw a deer, quickly Òsóòsì shoot an arrow that went through his throat and killed the deer.
Òsóòsì told Ògún that he could not reach the catch because of the bush, Ògún grabbed his bowie knife and made a trail as fast as a blink of an eye.
Really exited of what they had discovered, they shared the catch and realized that they where nothing as long as they stood apart from each other.
They booth went home to Òrúnmila and made a pact. That’s why Òsóòsì and Ògún are always together, Òsóòsì the hunter and Ògún the master of the Iron.
The Spiritual forces that are the foundations of Òsóòsì’s role in the spiritual kingdom are connected to the search of the balance between itself and the world.
Osoosi Ifa Scriptures
Ifá scriptures state that transformation occurs gradually increasing very slowly. Generally Òsóòsì is described as patient and persistent. The magic ritual is an instant repair of a problem and it is not magic if the results are not immediate and miraculous.
Ifá says that magic is a result of an unshakeable will and determination in the solution of a problem, Ifa says that there must be a will that objectively evaluates and discards what is not producing the desired result for this process to be effective.
Osoosi Benefits
Òsóòsì helps us to focus on finding the solution of the problem. The level of concentration is resemblance of a hunter that has to be still and patient while waiting for his pray.

Ori
Ori literally means “head”, Ori refers to one’s spiritual intuition and destiny. It is the reflective spark of human consciousness embedded into the human essence and therefore is often personified as an Orisha in its own right.
Human beings are able to heal themselves both spiritually and physically by working with the Orishas to achieve a balanced character or iwa-pele. When one has a balanced character, one obtains an alignment with one’s Ori or divine self.
Ori should be worshiped like Orisha. When things are not going right, Ori should be consulted. And to make things right Ori should be appeased. This is because whatever one becomes or whatever happens in one’s life is as destined by Ori.
Destiny And Fate
All human beings possess what is known as “Àyànmô” (destiny, fate) and are expected to eventually become one in spirit with Olódùmarè (Olòrún, the divine creator and source of all energy).
The Physical World
Furthermore, the thoughts and actions of each person in Ayé (the physical realm) interact with all other living things, including the Earth itself.
Achieve Transcendence
Each person attempts to achieve transcendence and find their destiny in Òrún-Réré (the spiritual realm of those who do good and beneficial things).
Spiritual Consciousness
One’s Orí-Inu (spiritual consciousness in the physical realm) must grow in order to consummate union with one’s “Ipônri” (Orí Òrún, spiritual self).
Invisible World
Those who stop growing spiritually, in any of their given lives, are destined for “Òrún-Apadi” (the invisible realm of potsherds).
Life And Death
Life and death are cycles of existence in a series of physical bodies while one’s spirit evolves toward transcendence.
Evolution
This evolution is the most evident amongst the Orishas, the divine viziers of the Almighty God.
Meditation
Iwapẹlẹ (or well-balanced) meditation and sincere veneration is sufficient to strengthen the Orí-Inu of most people.
Well-balanced people, it is able to make positive use of the simplest form of connection between their Oris and the omnipotent Olu-Òrún: an adúra (petition or prayer) for divine support.
Orí Òrún Prayer
Prayer to one’s Orí Òrún has been known to produce an immediate sensation of joy.
Ẹlégbara (Eṣu, the divine messenger) initiates contact with Òrún on behalf of the petitioner, and transmits the prayer to Ayé; the deliverer of àṣẹ or the spark of life.
He transmits this prayer without distorting it in any way. Thereafter, the petitioner may be satisfied with a personal answer.
In the event that he or she is not, the Ifa oracle may also be consulted.
All communication with Òrún, whether simplistic in the form of a personal prayer or complicated in the form of that done by an initiated priest of divination, however, is energized by invoking àṣẹ.
Olódùmarè has àṣẹ over all that is. It is for this reason that He is considered supreme.
Ayelala Deity
Ayelala is known to be an effective deity that punishes crime of various types.
Ayelala is a powerful and widely respected deity because of her capacity and witches caught up in the clutches of Ayelala are known to confess their sins in the open.
It could be invoked to unravel the cause of diabolical cause of mysteries.
Ayelala Deified Ancestor
Ayelala is a good example of a deified ancestor. The deified ancestors were human beings who had lived extra-ordinary and mysterious lives on earth, so much that when they died they were deified as god.
Ayelala History
Ayelala was formally a slave woman who was used for sacrifice over the case of adultery.
By the time she was about to be killed, she exclaimed Ayelala (the world is terrible).
Ayelala Place Of Origin
Ayelala whose place of origin can be traced to the people of Ilaje in Ondo State, Nigeria.
This slave woman was made to bear the consequences of the sin of another who had run to take asylum among the Ijaws; an act which caused serious disaffection between the Ijaws and the Ilajes.
Before sacrificing her, a covenant of reconciliation and ritual kinship was made between the Ilajes and Ijaws on the following terms, among others.
Ayelala was to kill any member of the parties to the covenant who plans evil against one another.
Ayelala was to punish with death, any member of the two groups who practices stealing, sorcery and witchcraft against each other.
Crimes Punished By Ayelala
There are two types of crimes: namely social and spiritual crimes. Social crimes cover those which upset the societal harmony.
Notable among such crimes are adultery, fighting, lying, stealing, ego centrism and similar ones.
Spiritual crimes are viewed with more seriousness. They include: incest, murder, suicide, killing sacred animals, occult killing, witchcraft killing, unmasking and masquerades.
A victim of robbery would go to a shrine and ask the goddess to sanction the culprit in a particular fashion and would promise rewards to the goddess.
The culprit, possessed by Ayelala would make his way to the shrine and confess. Most often, series of strange deaths may occur in the culprit’s family.
In 2005, when the Oba market in Benin City went up in flames, the hoodlums in the area had a field day; looting traders belongings in the market and breaking into many shops not affected by the fire were emptied by looters.
However, when a service of Ayelala was employed and the announcement was made that the looters should return the goods they have stolen or face the wrath of Ayelala, the goods earlier carted away resurfaced in the market in the following day.
Those that refused to return the goods were killed by Ayelala. Most Benin City dwellers are contented that the looters “got their rewards”.
Ayelala may also be placed in an agricultural farm land, Ayelala is often placed in a farm land or plantation to forestall loss of farm products to thieves.
Ayelala infests thieves and trespassers in its domain with mumps – a disease that causes terrible swelling of all body parts.
The offender would not get any relief until he confesses and brings back all items stolen from the farm.
Ayelala can be invoked to sanction an oath made between two parties. Oath taking in the traditional sense is a condition where total loyalty or adherences to certain agreement and conditionality is prescribed and administered in the beneficiaries of the agreement and the exercise is usually fetish.
Anyone who has taken such oath will not escape the punishment or sanction of a particular supernatural force or deity if the oath is broken. Oath taking is usually done at the Ayelala’s shrine.
Ayelala Deity Invocation
The process involved in the invocation of Ayelala deity required some material things and processes.
To invoke Ayelala deity, there must be a cock or duck, white cloth, seven needles, seven parrot feathers, seven alligator peppers and seven native chalks.
All these ingredients will be concealed in the stomach of the cock or duck and wrapped with the white cloth.
The cock will be eventually soaked in the Ayelala water and a curse will be pronounced on the evil doer.
When the evil doer is caught by the deity he or she will swell as the cock or duck swells in the water. Ayelala is highly praised and highly revered.
Ayelala Deity Praises
Praise, praise, praise,
Mother, mother, mother,
The Very mother, the very mother, the very mother.
Hail! Chief of the mothers: the mighty and awesome Queen.
She, who baths in gin like the foreign men,.
She who takes vengeance when the evil – doer has been forgotten,
She, who can never be guilty when she takes action,
May it be so.
Powers Of Ayelala Deity
Ayelala prowess and power is a credit to women folk. However, it should be noted that influence of Ayelala has been seriously limited among the Yoruba people as a result of introducing “civilization”.
At various times and in various circumstances, Africa has interacted with the rest of the world.
These are in the moments of Trans – Atlantic slave trade, Colonialism, post – colonialism and the present age of current globalization and these have affected, worrisomely, the economies, politics and cultures of the African people.
Civilization is just another concept of domination; imposition of incoming new culture over traditional cultural values.
Ayelala values in areas of social justice and social order have been seriously affected by the Western culture and foreign religions.
The cults of Ayelala have been infected with corrupt priests. Ayelala has been alleged of aiding the social problem of human trafficking by supporting the activities of human traffickers in Nigeria.
Human traffickers had been alleged of using Ayelala to intimidate their victims to succumb them to the control of their traffickers.
Ibeji
In ancient times, a prosperous farmer known as the monkey hunter, lived in a town called Isokun. He was known as the “monkey hunter” because his cultivation was so prolific that monkeys eat his crops and became a plague to him.
Thought he tried to get rid of the monkeys, they keep coming back and eat everything he had. He and his workers even watched the crops throw stones, hit them with stick and even killed the monkeys but monkeys refuse to stay away.
Monkey Witchcraft
Finally the farmer find a way to keep away the monkeys but the monkeys made Juju (witchcraft) so it started to rain, when the workers saw the rain, they went home thinking that the monkeys wouldn’t eat the crops while it rained, not aware of the monkeys witchcraft so that they could eat in the rain.
When the farmer saw this, he ordered a roof to protect the workers from the rain and he managed to kill many monkeys.
Babalawo
The farmer had many wives
The farmer had many wives and one day when a diviner came to town, he predicted to the farmer, that if he kept killing monkeys.
None of his wife would be able to give him children, this because monkeys are very wise and powerfull and they have the faculty to send Àbíkú (born to die prematurely) to his wives wombs. He was told to let the monkeys eat from his crops on his land.
The farmer did not believe the Babaláwo and kept killing monkeys. The monkeys met up and started to plane a way of vengeance the farmer until they came up with the idea to send the Àbíkús.
Two of the monkeys transformed to Àbíkús and went to the womb of the farmer’s wife and when the wife gave birth, she gave birth to two children at the same time.
This was the first time anybody gave birth to two children at once and some said “good fortune for the farmer” while others said “this is a bad sign to the farmer, since only monkeys give birth to twins.
But because the twins where Àbíkús they soon died, and the monkeys returned to the place of the “unborn”.
Again one of the wives got pregnant and when she gave birth, she also gave to birth to a pair of twins, and because they where monkeys they soon died again, and so all the wives went through the same thing.
Orunmila
The farmer got desperate, because he did not have children to inherit to. He traveled to a faraway place to consult with Òrúnmìlà, and was told that his problems where provoked by the monkeys.
The monkeys where sending Àbíkús to the wombs of his wives, because he caused them a great misery and in vengeance they were doing Juju (witchcraft).
Òrúnmìlà said that if he allow them to eat from his crops, maybe they will stop. The farmer returned to Isokun and stopped the hunt and the killing of the monkeys, soon the monkeys started to eat calmly. Once again one of the wives got pregnant and gave birth to a pair of twins.
The farmer got scared of losing the children the same way he lost the previous once, so he went to consult the Ifá’s oracle, to ensure that his children would not die again, and he was told by Ifá that his twins where not Àbíkús.
He was also told that the monkeys where now appeased. The twins weren’t ordinary children they had the power to reward or punish humans.
Ibeji The Protector
Their protector is Òrìsà Ìbejì and he will send illness, loss (pregnancy) and poverty to anybody who abuse them, and those who treats them well, will be rewarded with children and good fortune.
Ifá also said that no matter what ever made the Ìbejì’s happy has to been given to them. Because the Ìbejì’s where sent to earth by the monkeys, offerings has to been given to Òrìsà Ìbejì. Neither the twins nor their parents are allowed to kill or eat monkeys.
The farmer returned to Isokun and told his wife about Ifa’s revelation. His wives followed Ifa’s recommendations and soon the god fortune returned home to the farmer.
Twins Names In Yoruba
From this day the twins where called: Adanjunkale (sparkling eyes at home). The first one that is borne is called: Taiwo (To-aiye-wo: He who comes to try life).
The second one is called: Kehinde (Ko-ehin-de: He who comes after the other) and is the oldest one. The Yoruba populace believes that Kehinde always sends Taiwo to see if it is worth to live.
Ibeji Representation
The Ìbejìs represents the birth of two or more children at the same time. It is considered that they not only have special powers, they were also sand to earth by Sàngó himself.
In the Òrisà cult, the Ibejis can also descend from other lineages, besides Sàngó, for example from Yemoja or Obàtálá.
On the other hand the Ibejis that belongs to Obàtálá also descends from Sàngó, but because they where born albinos they where hand over to the Òrìsà funfun cult.
Ibeji Benefits And Colours
The Ìbejì are in general the protectors of the children and they are also used for union of people. The Òrìsà Ìbejì rests on two wooden dolls.
When they descend from Yemoja with Sàngó, the male is dressed in red and white and the female in baby blue and white this colours are also used for the necklaces.
When they descend from Òsun with Sàngó they are booth dressed in red white and yellow colours. But there is also another combination and it is when they descend from Oya with Sàngó, and in that case they are dressed in fabrics with 9 sparkling colours.

Santeria Rituals & Ceremonies
Santería does not use a central creed for its religious practices; though it is understood in terms of its rituals and ceremonies.
Ilé
These rituals and ceremonies take place in what is known as a house-temple or casa de santos (house of saints) also known as an ilé.
Igbodu
Most ilés are in the homes of the initiated priests and priestesses. Ilé shrines are built by the priests and priestess to the different orichás which creates a space for worship called an igbodu (altar).
In an igbodu there is a display of three distinct thrones draped with royal blue, white and red satin that represent the seats of the queens, kings and the deified warriors.
Each ilé is composed of those who occasionally seek guidance from the orishas as well as those who are in the process of becoming priests.
Cabildos And Casas
The many cabildos and casas that bridged the 19th and 20th centuries are fondly remembered by contemporary priests as the origins and strongholds of Cuban Lucumí culture and religion.
Santero
To become a Santero or Santera “Priest or Priestess of Santería”, the initiator must go through an intensive week-long initiation process in which the teaching of the ritual skills and moral behavior occurs informally and nonverbally.
Padrino
To begin with, the initiator goes through what is called a cleansing ritual. The initiator’s Padrino “godfather” cleanses the head with special herbs and water.
The Padrino rubs the herbs and water in a specific pattern of movements into the scalp of the head.
Rogación De La Cabeza
However, if a person is entering Santería for the need of healing, they will undergo the rogación de la cabeza “blessing of the head” in which coconut water and cotton are applied on the head to feed it.
Once cleansed, there are four major initiation rituals that the initiator will have to undergo: obtaining the elekes “beaded necklace”, receiving Los Guerreros “the Warriors”, making Ochá “Saint”, and Asiento “ascending the throne”.
Obtaining The Ilekes
The first ritual is known as the acquisition of the beaded necklaces “known as ilekes”. The colors and patterns of the beads on the ilekes will be those of the orichá that serves as the iyawo’s “bride” ruling head and guardian angel and so the first thing that must be done is to determine who the orichá is.
The ilekes necklace is bathed in a mixture of herbs, sacrificial blood and other potent substances and given to the initiated.
The initiate most often receives the necklace of the five most powerful and popular oricha as the multicolored beads of the elekes are each patterned for the primary Orichás “Eleguá, Obatalá, Yemayá, Changó, and Ochún” and they serve as a sacred point of contact with these Orichás.
When the necklace is received, the initiated must bow over a bathtub and have his or her head washed by the olo orichá.
The elekes serves as the sacred banners for the Orichás and act as a sign of the Orichá’s presence and protection; however, it must never be worn during a woman’s menstruation period, nor during sex, nor when bathing.
Medio Asiento
The second important ritual is known as medio asiento, the creation of an image of the orichá Eleguá. The individual will go through a consultation with a Santero, where all the recipients’ life, past, present and future will be reviewed.
During the consultation, the Santero determines which path of Eleguá the recipient will receive. Then, based on his findings, he chooses materials that will be used to construct the image of the Eleguá, a sculpture that is used to keep evil spirits away from the initiator’s home.
This ritual is only prepared by men as the orichás take some of the Santero’s “manly” spirit in the process.
Los Guerreros
The third ritual, known as “receiving the warriors”, is a ritual where the initiated receives objects from their padrino that represents the warriors; Iron tools to represent Ogún; an iron bow and arrow to represent Ochosi; and an iron or silver chalice surmounted by a rooster to represent Osún.
This ritual begins a formal and lifelong relationship that the initiate will have with these Orichás, as the orichás devote their energies to protecting and providing for the initiate on their path.
Asiento
The last ritual of the initiation process is known as Asiento “ascending the throne” and is the most important and the most secretive ritual in Santería, as it is the ceremony where the iyawo “bride of the oricha” becomes “born again” into the faith.
This ritual is a culmination of the previous rituals and cannot be made unless the others have been completed.
Asiento is a process of purification and divination whereby the initiated becomes like a newborn baby and begins a new life of deeper growth within the faith.
Post Initiation
Once the initiation is completed, depending on the individuals “house”, there is a year-long waiting period, known as iyaboraje in which the newly appointed Priest and Priestess can not perform cleansings and other remedies.
It is a time where the Iyawo or Bride of the Orichá must follow a strict regimen of wearing all white and must avoid physical contact with those who have not been initiated.
Once the ebo del año has been completed there will be an end of year ceremony, which will enable the Priest or Priestess to consult clients, perform cleansings, provide remedies and perform initiations.
They are also regarded as royalty in the religion, as they are considered representatives of the Orichás and are vested with the power to work with the forces of those Orichás in full.
Musical Ceremonies
With Santería rituals there are musical ceremonies and prayers that are referred to as bembé, toque de santo, or tambor.
It is a celebration dedicated to an Orichá, where the batá drums “set of three drums known as the iya (the largest drum), itoltele, and okonkolo” are played in the Orichá’s honor.
Through these sacred drums, messages of worshippers reach the orichás and the orichás respond to their devotees.
These drums are used only by men and must always be treated with respect; for example, dancers must never turn their backs towards the drums while dancing, as it is considered disrespectful.
Clergy
Priests are commonly known as Santeros or Olorichas. Once those priests have initiated other priests, they become known as babalorichás, “fathers of orichá” (for men) and as iyalorichás, “mothers of orichá” (for women).
Priests can commonly be referred to as Santeros (male) and Santeras (female) and if they function as diviners (using cowrie-shell divination known as Dilogun) of the Orichás they can be considered Italeros or if they go through training to become leaders of initiations, Obas or Oriates.
Lucumí
The Lucumí people are an Afro-Cuban ethnic group of Yoruba ancestry that practice La Regla Lucumí, Santeria Religion and worship the Orishas.
Lucumí Traditional Healing
Lucumí traditional healing practices are rooted in the spiritual influences of America, Europe and West Africa.
Having a strong spiritual component, these traditional healing practices also use the pathways of the herbalist, psychologist, ethicist and that of a respected spiritual medium interceding between God and human beings.
Ethnomedicine
Cuban traditional healing practices as ethnomedicine, which taps on the biodynamic chemical properties of certain plants, from which some commercial drugs were derived, such as the cardiac medications, digitalis, quinine, and curare – chemicals causing neuromuscular paralysis.
I categorize Cuban ethnomedicine as having health specialists, which are el yerbero (the herbalist), el curandero (the curer), el santero (the religious healer) and el conocedor (the botanist).
Cuba is one of the regions in which a great deal of ethnographic and ethnobotanical research has been conducted.
Lemongrass
Lemongrass or caña de limón is used for low blood pressure and anti-inflammatory effects. Thyme tea and castor oil are used to speed the delivery of babies and the broomweed (Corchorus siliquosus) induces the quick expulsion of the placenta.
Herbs
Herbs are also used to create a trance possession using the hallucinogenic properties of Datura metel and Datura stramonium (both have scopolamine and atropine, causing amnesia), the psychoactive ingredients from the cane toad (Bufo marinus).
Holistic Approach
Aside from being herbalist, Santería traditional healing practice has a spiritual aspect. Santería has a holistic approach, acknowledging the connection with heart, mind, and body. In Santería, the world flows with the primal life energy called aché or growth, the force toward completeness and divinity.
Aché
Aché is the current that Santería initiates channel so that it empowers them to fulfill their path in life because aché is connected to all that has life or exhibits power; aché comprises blood, grace, and power.
When a person is sick, the healer thinks, interprets and reacts, considering the illness not just a physical dysfunction but also an interface with suffering and bad luck in life brought on by the activity of bad spirits.
Spiritism
Santería has a “strong element of spiritism and santeros have the power to communicate with spirits asking for guidance to improve the situation of a person consulting.
However, in general, the Santeros of the Regla de Ochá primarily turn to religion as their practice to address personal challenges and identify means to improve a situation.
Many people may go and see espirititas who don’t see a Santero. Also, espiritistas may work hand in hand with Santeros.
Psychotherapy
While psychotherapy tends to use mostly allopathic principles, spiritism uses homeopathic principles that aim to reduce the anxiety or permit the patient to acknowledge pent-up emotions, unexpressed guilt or repressed behavior through catharsis meant to release emotions the patient may not even be aware of.
Medium
Healing can occur when the spirit medium assists the sufferer to come into harmony with the spirit world so as to change his or her physical condition, emotions, way of life or destiny.
Espiritistas
The reputation of espiritistas was tinged with negativity, being accused of witchcraft because they deal with health through the unfamiliar paradigm of the spirit world, which was not understood by either the medical doctors or the Catholic priests.
Consequently, espiritistas or traditional healers of Santería and other Latin American cultures working with healing through the spirit world are attacked as “works of the devil” from the pulpits of the Catholic Churches and labeled as “quackery” from the journals of the medical profession. This unique system of knowledge is appreciated as ethnopharmacology or ethnomedicine.
Aligning and harmonizing with the forces of nature, practitioners of the Regla de Ochá invoke on the guidance of Orichás.
Orichás
There are three foremost orichás that are predominantly concerned with folk-healing, however, other orichás may be invoked to help a person with a specific problem.
These main orichás are: Osaín, the orichá of the herbs; Babalú-Ayé, the orichá of contagious and epidemic diseases; and Inle, the patron of physicians. Osaín is the patron of curanderos or traditional herbal healers, also called Osainistas.
Osaín
Osaín is embodied in the omiero, which is a combination of “blood from sacrifices offered during the ceremony and juices extracted from herbs that are sacred to the Orichás with water (from rain, rivers, or seas) honey, aguardiente, powdered eggshell, corojo, and cocoa butter.
The forest has everything that would maintain a robust health and keep a person away from malevolence, no spell will be able to work without the sanction of Osaín, the master herbalist commanding the healing secrets of plant life.
Babalú-Ayé
Osaín is syncretized with Saint Joseph, Saint Benito or Saint Jerome. Babalú-Ayé is revered by its victims and survivors like smallpox, leprosy and skin diseases. Babalú-Ayé has become the guardian of those with HIV/AIDS.
Inle
He is syncretized with Saint Lazarus. Inle is the patron of physicians, known as a healer who favors scientific methods. Inle is ranked as one of the orichás that is approached for very specific health issues. Thus, Inle is also known as the protector of homosexuals and feminosexuals.
Rituals
Aside from the use of herbs and divination, the Santería traditional healing is achieved through rituals that include animal sacrifice, offerings, altar building, music, dance and possession trance.
When the patient is a child, the Santero uses the curative system known as santiguo, which means “to heal by blessing”. Perceiving health problems, most Santeros recommend that the client seeks a medical doctor.
Parallel to the medical treatment, the patient might be prescribed some herbal teas, cleansing baths or a special diet from the traditional healing practice.
Sometimes, a Santero might advise a client to receive omiero, whose efficacy is widely disputed by many in the medical community.
Omiero
An omiero is a sacred mixture that is made for specific Santería ceremonies and to embody the orichá ruler of herbs, Osaín. Most clients who see Santeros would never be told to drink it.
Santería traditional healing is just one of the many traditional healing practices used in Caribbean and Latin American cultures.
Traditional healing practices are practiced side by side with mainstream medical practices through the Cuban healthcare system. Traditional healers recognize but do not compete with Western medicine.
Voodoo
Voodoo or Vodun which means spirit in the Fon and Ewe languages also spelled Vodon, Vodoun, Vodou, Voudou, Voodoo, etc is practiced by the Ewe people of eastern and southern Ghana and southern and central Togo and the Kabye people, Mina people and Fon people of southern and central Togo and southern and central Benin.
It is also practiced by some Gun people of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo in southwest Nigeria. All the aforementioned peoples belong to Gbe speaking ethnic groups of West Africa, except the Kabye.
African Tradition Religions
It is distinct from the various African traditional religions in the interiors of these countries and is the main source of religions with similar names found among the African Diaspora in the New World such as Haitian Vodou; Cuban Vodú; Dominican Vudú; Brazilian Vodum and Louisiana Voodoo.
Voodoo Cosmology
Voodoo or Vodun cosmology centers around the Vodun spirits and other elements of divine essence that govern the Earth, a hierarchy that range in power from major deities governing the forces of nature and human society to the spirits of individual streams, trees, and rocks, as well as dozens of ethnic Vodun, defenders of a certain clan, tribe or nation.
The vodun are the center of religious life, similar in many ways to doctrines such as the intercession of saints and angels that made Vodun appear compatible with Christianity, especially Catholicism and produced syncretic religions such as Haitian Vodou.
Ancestor Worship
Ancestor worship with the spirits of the dead live side by side with the world of the living, each family of spirits having its own female priesthood, sometimes hereditary when it’s from mother to blood daughter.
Patterns Of Worship
Patterns of worship follow various dialects, spirits, practices, songs, and rituals. A divine Creator, called variously Mawu or Mahu is a female being who in one tradition bore seven children and gave each rule over a realm of nature – animals, earth, and sea or else these children are inter-ethnic and related to natural phenomena or to historical or mythical individuals.
Cosmogonic Principle
The Creator embodies a dual cosmogonic principle of which Mawu the moon and Lisa the sun are respectively the female and male aspects, often portrayed as the twin children of the Creator.
Legba
In other traditions, Legba is represented as Mawu’s masculine counterpart, thus being represented as a phallus or as a man with a prominent phallus.
Dan Mawu’s Androgynous Son
Dan, who is Mawu’s androgynous son, is represented as a rainbow serpent and was to remain with her and act as a go-between with her other creations. As the mediator between the spirits and the living, Dan maintains balance, order, peace and communication.
Divine
All creation is divine and therefore contains the power of the divine. This is how medicines such as herbal remedies are understood and explains the ubiquitous use of mundane objects in religious ritual.
Voodoo Talismans
Voodoo or Vodun talismans, called “fetishes” are objects such as statues or dried animal or human parts that are sold for their healing and spiritually rejuvenating properties.
Voodoo Is Not Dangerous
So if you are not already familiar with Voodoo, there is one very important thing that I need to mention straight away: Voodoo is not dangerous and its bad reputation only comes from books and horror movies.
Of course, some Voodoo spell casters are using their magick powers in order to do evil. But it can be the case for other spell casters, who are not using Voodoo.
Voodoo Priests
Moreover, drifting into Voodoo occult spirits is specific to Voodoo Priests and I am personally very attached to the traditional African roots of Voodoo.
As far as I’m concerned, I’m casting spells to help people only, not to harm them. That is why you can use my Voodoo spells without threatening your own karma with backfires. My work is safe, and I will always use only positive and good spirits.
If you contact me, you can be sure that I will solve all your problems by casting the most powerful Voodoo spells for you.

(2) DIVINATION
A real Babalawo should be able to divine with at least more than one divination system in addiction to Ifa divination. Before dealing with a Babalawo online or offline, ask him to show you his IFA divination system in addiction with any other divination system.
(3) DIVINATION ACCURACY
A real Babalawo divination is always accurate except his client is dishonest. Never you tell a real babalawo what brought you to his shrine, it is the duty of a real Babalawo to tell you what brought you to his shrine. Even if you disguise yourself, IFA will expose you.
(4) CERTIFICATION
A real Babalawo is a Certified Priest with a recognize certificate like every other religious priest in the world. A real Babalawo can conduct wedding ceremonies, burial ceremonies, settle disputes, council people, divine for people, initiate people into Priesthoods... etc. Before dealing with a Babalawo online or offline, ask him for his certificate and ID card.
(5) AGELESS
Babalawo Ejiogbe started talking the very day he was born and Babalawo Ogunda teleported from heaven to earth without being born of a woman. Age doesnt determine the genuineness of a Babalawo. The work of a Babalawo determine his genuineness. A Babalawo can be an old man but fake while a Babalawo can be a young boy but genuine. Age is useless in spirituality.
(6) FEE
The price tag of a Babalawo on his divination fee, consultation fee, spiritual bath fee, ebo (sacrifice) fee, medicine (charm) fee and other babalawo fees doesn't determine the genuineness of a Babalawo. For a fake Babalawo can put low price tag to attract new customers and scam them and a real Babalawo can put a low price tag to attract new customers and solve all their problems. A fake Babalawo can also put high price to attract rich customers and scam them while a real Babalawo can put high price to attract rich customers and solve all their problems.

Curse & Evil Eye Removal Spell6 Signs To Know Real Babalawos
7 Myths About Babalawo And Iyanifa You Should Know
Aboru Aboye, most people after watching movies, dramas… have wrong impressions about Babalawo, Iyanifa and African Tradition Religion. I’m here to correct those myths and expose you to the truth:
1* JESUS SUPERIORITY: Most people think and feel that whenever they call “Jesus” or use the name of Jesus to pray on a Babalawo or Iyanifas, him or her will fall on the ground, struck by fire… This is nothing but a myth. Babalawos doesnt fall or get struck by fire or act weird whenever Jesus is called upon them during prayers by Christians. Don’t let nollywood fool you. In real life, some of us even accompany pastors to their churches to plant church growth charms, commanding charms, do as I say charms, hypnotic charms… inside the church were Jesus is prayed to every Sunday. We dont worship Jesus because Jesus is our friend. So how can you worship your friend?
2* INTERNET ILLITERATE: Most people think and feel that Babalawos and Iyanifas shouldn’t be using the internet. These people also feel or think Babalawos and Iyanifas should be internet illitrate. I totally disagree with this because this is nothing but a myth. I’m a Babalawo and I have more than hundred Babalawos and Iyanifas friends who are on social networks like facebook and instagram. They are posting photos and videos of their ebos, charms, initiations… on social network. There is no Odu Ifa that forbids Babalawos and Iyanifas from using the internet.
3* HUMAN RITUALS: When there is human ritual killing, fingers are always pointed at Babalawos and Iyanifas. Most people think and feel that Babalawos and Iyanifas are into human rituals. I totally disagree with this because this is nothing but a myth. Yes, blood sacrifice plays a very important role in our religion but certainly not human blood. Babalawos and Iyanifas are law abiding citizens, we don’t participate in human ritual killings. The Orisas don’t accept human sacrifice; they only accept animal and fruits sacrifice.
4* FOREST IN-HABITATION: Most people think and feel that Babalawos stays in the forest. Babalawos in Cities are not powerful compared to Babalawos staying in the forest. I totally disagree with this because this is nothing but a myth. Yes, we do go to the forest to gather herbs, carry out initiations, evocations… but most of us don’t stay in the forest. We stay in Cities, Towns, Villages… and live happily with our neighbors. We are our brothers keeper, we are good neighbors and we are very generous. If you live close to a Babalawo, you will never be hungry again because we share our food and meat to our neighbors before or after ebo. Babalawos location doesn’t make him powerful. Location doesn’t determine how powerful a Babalawo is. Please take note!
5* POVERTY: Most people think and feel that Babalawos and Iyanifas must be poor. Babalawos signed pact with elders of the night or with their Orisas never to be rich and wealthy. I totally disagree with this because this is nothing but a myth. Babalawos wealth and riches determine his worth. Babalawos whose medicines, charms, ebos…. are effective and potent get lots of material gifts like lands, houses, cars… from his clients as thanksgiving and these material gifts are Babalawos wealth. There is no Odu Ifa that forbids Babalawos and Iyanifas not to be rich. Infact, the Odu Ifa have several itans of rich and wealthy Babalawos like Ejiogbe who was the king of the day, Oyeku who was the king of the night, Iwori who was the king of the night and day….
6* OLD: Most people think and feel that a Babalawo must be an old man. The older a Babalawo is; the more powerful he is. I totally disagree with this because this is nothing but a myth. Old age has nothing to do with how powerful a Babalawo is. Imagine an old Awo who started IFA training with a non relative Babalawo at 40 years and started practicing at 60 and a young Awo who started IFA training at 13 years with his parent and started practicing at 27 ye
7 years. In cases like this, the young Awo who learnt IFA training under his parents guidance will be more skilled than the old Awo because his parents will teach him everything and will not hide anything from him. There are certain things money can not buy and this is one of those things.
7* ONE EYE IYEROSUN: Most people think and feel that a Babalawo must rob one of his eye with Iyerosun to clairvoyantly see. I totally disagree with this because this is nothing but a myth. You don’t clairvoyantly see with your physical eyes; you see with your third eye which has nothing to do with your physical eyes. The third eye is a spiritual sense organ while the physical eye is a physical sense organ. Both physical and spiritual sense organs are totally different. A client once asked me “Baba, why didn’t you rob the white stuff around your eye before consulting IFA?” I just smiled and said “it is not necessary”

Curse & Evil Eye Removal Spell6 Signs To Know Real
8 Signs You Are Under A Powerful Love Spell
Most people have been hearing about love spells or have watched love spells in movies but they don't know if they themselves or their loved ones are under love spell because they lack occult knowledge.
Luckily for you today, I will be walking you through the basics of love spells. You see in reality love spells might seem like something from a movie but they can be very real and sometimes people are not even aware of the power that they are putting out into the universe.
It can be that a person has not even consciously cast a love spell on you or your loved one but love spells are more common than you might think.
If you ever consider attempting to put a love spell on someone else, think twice. Because these types of spells are interfering with someone’s free will, have a way of not working out or backfiring.
It would be wise to keep in mind the law of three which basically indicates that whatever you put out into the universe will be returned to you three times.
8 Signs You Are Under A Powerful Love Spells:
You find yourself being drawn to a person who is not usually your type.
You have difficulty eating or sleeping due to concerns about this person’s affections.
Your every conscious moment and every thought somehow relates back to the person.
You find yourself saying their name a lot and often for no reason.
Every time the phone rings you think you know that it is that person, even when it’s not.
You think that whenever you hear the noise of a car going by, you think that it is them.
You constantly dream about the person — these are usually especially vivid dreams.
You find yourself either suddenly emulating their behavior or trying to draw their attention to you.
As you can see there are a lot of signs that you could be under the influence of someone else’s love spell. However, the most basic thing to look for is if you find yourself suddenly feeling or thinking about a person that you usually wouldn’t. Or if you have known a person previously but very suddenly start to experience intense emotions for them.
These are both signs that someone may have you under their influence. The best thing to remember if you suspect that someone has cast a love spell on you is to remain calm.
It is probably not wise to confront the person, in case they haven’t done it consciously. Most would recommend attempting to re-route the unwanted power back into the earth as rebounding negative energy has the potential of harming the original caster.
While this might seem like a good idea, it would be best to keep in mind the law of three. If you are not experienced in occult, you should seek help on how best to fight it.
Cure To Cancer, Bareness, Asthma & Other Uncurable Sickness
Many of us have used roots and herbs at some point in time for several reasons, whether it was togoyaro we had to cure Malaria, monkey tail to get high or bush flower to cure eczema, we know deep within that "natural extracts" are good for us and their benefits.
Perhaps our belief of this fact has become skewed overtime or better yet shaken from its once enduring perspective as drugs take center stage in society.
Most people view herbal remedies as options for minor ailments only, choosing synthetic drugs over herbs for more serious and quicker acting effects.
The general public see herbal medicines as for quacks and fakes. Indeed they are quacks in herbal medicines just as they are lots of quacks in the conventional medicines.
Infact conventional medicines has taken more lives than herbal medicines. Millions have died as a result of conventional medicine.
Herbs have been used as a powerful form of medicine spanning centuries, since the creation of man. Their honor has been spoken about in history. African medicine has a long history of using herbs and was first mentioned in Odu IFA.
Most Africa charms and medicines are produced from roots, herbs and animals remnants. Their results are usually remarkable.
Most uncurable illness like cancer, bareness, asthma and other life threatening diseases can be cured by simply taking fruits which are not expensive but pharmaceutical companies would not allow the general public to know this because they are making lots of money from their medicines sales.
Before you say I am wrong about cancer cure, please read what am about to write. Firstly I am not a medical doctor, I am a trained native doctor and I have lots of experience.
Cancer is a nutritional-deficiency disease. It is not caused by a bacterium, virus or mysterious toxin but by the absence of a substance that modern man has removed from his diet.
If my analysis is correct, then the cure and prevention of cancer is simple. All that needs to be done is to restore that easily obtained and inexpensive food factor to our daily meals.
It should not be surprising that these medical experts have rejected the vitamin deficiency concept of cancer. There is nothing in it for them.
Not only would a world without cancer lead to pay-check shock, it also would represent a blow to professional prestige.
Imagine a cure for cancer found in the seeds of fruits, not in research laboratories and discovered by people without government grants or prestigious diplomas hanging on their walls!
Organized medicine has said Cancer Herbal Medicine is quackery. It says it is “unproven” cancer treatment. However, let us take a closer look at that word. For most people, unproven means simply that there is no proof.
But what is proof? It is not an absolute concept. In the strict sense, there is no such thing as proof; there is only evidence.
If evidence is convincing to the observer, then it is said to be proof and the thesis which it supports is viewed as “proven.”
If a second observer finds the same evidence to be unconvincing, then it is not proof, and the thesis is “unproven” to that observer.
There is a great deal of evidence supporting the nutritional-deficiency concept of cancer more than enough to convince most people that the thesis is proven. But the word proven, when used by the medical experts has an entirely different meaning.
It is a technical definition. When medical experts says a therapy is proven, it means only that its promoters have complied with the testing protocols set by the agency to demonstrate safety and effectiveness.
It is important to know, however, that the successful completion of those tests does not mean, as the terminology implies, that the therapy is safe and effective.
It merely means that tests have been conducted, the results have been evaluated and the board of medical experts has given its approval for marketing, often in spite of the dismal re
It merely means that tests have been conducted, the results have been evaluated and the board of medical experts has given its approval for marketing, often in spite of the dismal results.
If cancer patients undergoing these medical tests-proven therapies were to read the actual laboratory reports, they would recoil in horror. They show neither safety nor effectiveness and in fact, they are not intended to do so.
Their purpose is to establish the lethal dose, the point at which the therapy will kill 50% of the patients and also to establish the ratio between those who are benefited and those who are not. That ratio often is in the range of only eight or nine people out of a hundred.
Furthermore, “benefited” can mean any slight improvement such as a temporary reduction in tumor size. It almost never means a complete cure.
If anything is “proven” by these studies, it is that most medical-approved cancer therapies are both unsafe and ineffective. Then there is the question of money.
The testing protocols established by medical experts are costly. The promoters of a new therapy must assign a large staff of technicians and compile many thousands of statistical pages. The complete reports often weigh hundreds of pounds and stack over six feet in height.
The process can take years and consume over two-hundred million dollars per study. Only the large pharmaceutical companies can play that game.
Although they publicly complain about this expense, they privately approve because it prevents competition from smaller companies.
The potential reward of getting a new product into the world market is well worth the investment. But who would be willing to spend that kind of money on developing a product that cannot be patented? Substances found in nature cannot be patented; only those which are invented by man.
If a company were to spend two-hundred-million dollars to obtain medicines approval for a natural substance, its competitors then would be able to market the product and the developer could never recover the investment.
No substance from nature will ever be legally available for cancer or any other disease unless its source can be monopolized or its processing can be patented.
No matter how safe and effective it may be and no matter how many people are benefited, it will forever be relegated to the category of “unproven” medicines.
As such, freely available cures from nature will always be illegal to prescribe, to promote and in many cases even to use.

How Yemoja (Yemonja / Yemaya) Can Help You Live a Better Life
Yemayá, Yemònja or Yemòja is the queen of the water and her body are all the rivers, lakes and sea flow from her.
Example: Mayelewo is the one who prevails in Oyo and she was a merchandiser in the city of Shaki, She married with Okefe which is the real name of Òòsàoko but he insulted her by calling her Somu Gaga (large breast) because of her large breast.
YEMAYA / YEMONJA / YEMÒJA TABOO

Yemayá accepted and asked him to never touch her breast and for a long time they fulfilled these promises and Yemayá gave him many children.
One day, Ògún wanted to make something special to Yemayá and started to make her soup but because of his lack of experience he dropped the pot and it broke in thousand pieces as the food fell to the floor.

Witches Initiation
Witchcraft power is generally attributed to older women but young women or even girls can sometimes be involved.
Witchcraft power is a kind of immaterial substance which may be kept in a calabash hidden in a hole in the wall of a witch's house or in a hollow tree.
The power itself may be lodged in the roots of a tree or even in a young child (age 1 to 8 years).
In the latter case the witchcraft power will not harm the child but on the contrary will protect the child from other witches as the child is serving one of them as a refuge.
The red tailfeather of the parrot is used as a sign of witchcraft power and may be placed in the calabash or in the tree containing witchcraft power.
I have seen women vomit witchcraft out. It was like a stone or a hard ball of something. They were not killed after that.
The spirit of witches after death becomes a restless and disconsolate ghost who wanders about the world in a distraught state.
The power is usually passed from mother to daughter but it may also be bestowed as a gift or may be purchased.
When passed from one person to the other it is often given mixed with certain foods.
It is sometimes held that a woman can not die possessing witchcraft power but must pass it on to someone before her death; in fact, she will not be able to die unless she does so.
Witchcraft power is like a breeze, you can't see it but it has effect. A woman can't die possessing it-when she dies, she vomits out the invisible witchcraft and it passes to her daughter.
A person can buy witchcraft power or may, as well, inherit it from another person.
This mostly depends on the interest or love the witchcraft woman has in the person that is going to possess it.
But it is necessary and matter of must, to give this witchcraft power to somebody before she should die.
In this case, if she could not get anybody either to buy it or to give it out as a gift to her friend outside or to have a daughter she loved that can inherit it, she has to take it to an Iroko tree that is very young.
This will become a spirit in the tree. Other witches will be coming to this tree to have their meetings. It is such trees that we native doctors carry our sacrifices to in case we have a patient that is seriously sick.
Witchcraft bought with money is not given directly, it can be given through foods such as baked beans (Akara), Kola, Porridge, red Yam and many other native foods.
When this is taken, the power will start to grow, until when the person will start to fly at night.Witches Covenant With Orunmila
Certain women once went to "Eshu" to ask for the power of witchcraft. Eshu was willing to give it to them but he had to refer them to Orunmila.
Orunmila would not allow them to go out into the world with the power of witchcraft until they promised to honor certain signs and materials to serve men as protections against their power.
They agreed to this but it was necessary for them to go on to Olorun to make their agreement binding.
This transaction is mentioned in certain ancient Ifa verses of unknown origin which are used in divination.
INCANTATION
"ldi ogbungbun, aworo niye"
They went to Alara's house and kill him
They went to Ajero's house and kill him
They went to Orangun's house and kill him
You pluck the Okro of Ejiwo
You eat the Camwood of Ailoran
You kill the stammering water of Owu
When Eshu came, you left for a place in the sky and it received you not
Then you went to Orunmila and when you got there
You greeted him and he asked you where you were going
Then you said you were going into the world to be killing people and to be debarring their progress
It is a forbidden act to eat soap
Then Orunmila said that he would not allow the gates to be opened unto you
Unless you go to the Almighty God
When you got there
You explain yourselves to Him
Then almighty God said:
"Spittle once out of the mouth
Will not come back to the mouth again
The grass that the elephants tread will never rise again
Therefore you must not change your agreement
And anybody with this sign on should be honoured'."

Why Witches Hate HumansWitches Initiation
Why Witches Hate Humans
Iyami Osoronga "Goddess of Witches" had only one child while her sister "Ogbori" a human being had ten children.
One day, her sister "Ogbori" was going to the only market available at that time and she instructed "Iyami Osoronga" her sister to take good care of her children before she returns back from the market.
Iyami Osoronga took good care of her sister ten children and nothing bad happened to her sister ten children.
It was now the turn of Iyami Osoronga to go to the market which she did and she instructed "Ogbori" her sister to take good care of her only child.
At her absence, Ogbori ten children were hungry and they wanted to eat bird meat. They told "Ogbori" their mom that they wanted to eat bird meat.
So Ogbori went to the bush to hunt for bird. Quickly, the ten children of Ogbori killed Iyami Osoronga only child, roasted his meat and ate him.
As Ogbori children were killing Iyami Osoronga only child "son", Iyami Osoronga supernatural powers gave her a sign that something was wrong with her only child at home.
She abandoned what she was buying at the market and went home immediately. Only to see her only child "son" been eaten by Ogbori children.
She cried bitterly, she became extremely angry, she packed all her belongings and headed to the forest to meet with her brother "The Great Iroko Tree".
When the Great Iroko Tree heard his sister crying bitterly, he invited her in and asked her what was the matter?
She narrated her bitter story and Iroko calmed her and told her that from that day onward they are going to feed on the children of Ogbori.
That was how witches had been feeding on humans till this very day.

Third Eye: How To Open Your Third Eye Through Darkness
Through darkness comes light
The elders of the night are older than the elders of the day
Àború Aboye, Ogbó Ató, Àsúre Ìwòrì Wòfún
Today I will be teaching you "Third Eye: How To Open Your Third Eye Through Darkness"
Third eye also known as psychic eye, prophetic eye, spiritual eye, clairvoyance... is located between your two eye brow.
The third eye is very popular because of it benefits and advantages. So I will be using third eye or spiritual eye interchangeably within this post.
Every human has third eye unlike some esoteric school of thoughts that teaches that only few humans has it. We are souls in a human body and third eye is the eye of the soul.
Those of us that have successfully opened our third eye have enjoyed it usefulness and endless benefits.
I was did FREE FACE DIVINATION on the internet were I told random strangers about their future. It would have not been possible if my third eye were not opened.
Third eye activation is a must have for every successful occultist, diviner, spiritualist.... You cant operate in spirit world if you are spiritually blind. You will not be able to see witches, ogbanjes, bad spirits, good spirits, Orisas (Gods / Goddesses)....
DANGERS OF OPENING THE THIRD EYE
There are lots of dangers in opening the third eye. If forcefully opened can lead to insanity because it is located in the brain. You don't want to tamper with your brain, do you?
Third eye like every other occult power can be abused in different ways by malicious practitioner. Imagine a malicious person whose third eye has been fully opened; walks up to a random rich stranger, calls the stranger by his or her full names, reveals the rich strangers secrets problems and demand huge amount of money to solve the rich stranger problems and threatens the rich stranger with death if his or her problem is not solved. In some cases sex is demanded from the rich stranger. This is why self discipline is a must have for every occult practitioner.

METHODS OF OPENING THIRD EYE
There are several methods to open the third eye, some methods are dangerous while others are safe. Some methods are slow while others are faster.
I am going to teach you one very powerful method of opening your third eye that I was taught personally by my late Babalawo who has joined his ancestors. And his method was taught to him by his predecessors, the chains goes up in my priesthood. You must have self discipline for this method to work for you.
THIRD EYE ACTIVATION THROUGH DARKNESS
We are souls in the human body. Religion, ethnicity, race, country, gender... has made us (souls) to forget who we are but those who have attained enlightenment knows who they are: "SOULS IN A HUMAN BODY"
For you to open or activate your third eye to enjoy it endless benefits; you must detach yourself completely from your body. Without darkness, you will not go far as a diviner, occultist, spiritualist, prophet....
This is a simple but very powerful method of darkness that if you follow this method, your third eye will be fully opened within few days just like mine.
TOTAL DARKNESS: Get a room that has toilet, bathroom and kitchen. Use thick blankets to cover all the windows of the room, toilet, bathroom and kitchen to prevent sun ray and moonlight so that it will be total darkness.
NO ELECTRONICS: You will switch off all electronics like world clocks, televisions, phones, computers... during these period.
INITIATION: Shave the hair from your head completely at 12 midnight with a razor blade and burn your hair inside a native pot same time.
CLEANSING: Cut the neck of a black he-goat with a knife, pour the black he-goat blood on your newly shaved head, bury the body of the black.

Ifa Divination
Ifa is a pragmatic spiritual science and study of how things come into existence codified a millennia ago by Orunmila Bara Agboniregun “Orisha of wisdom”. It is revealed to Babalawos in the form of what we call “Odu”.
There are 256 such possible combinations “Odu” which can occur when we consult Ifa. Odu is sometimes referred to as the womb, dark matter consciousness or that which is unseen.
This detailed and pointed study of nature through unveiling and interpreting various signs and symbols contained in allegory is what we call Ifa or the wisdom of nature.
I use either the divining chain known as Opele or the sacred palm or kola nuts called Ikin on the wooden divination tray called Opon Ifá.
I’m sought after and known for his insight and advice which he gives based on the study of the world through the lens of traditional and modern day West African cosmology and related through his multi-cultural perspective.
Ifá is practiced throughout the Americas, West Africa and the Canary Islands in the form of a complex religious system and plays a critical role in the traditions of Santería, Candomblé, Palo, Umbanda, Vodou and other Afro-American faiths as well as in some traditional African religions.
Get The Most Accurate Ifa Divination From World Best Renowned Babalawo
Have you tried called a phone babalawo before? Was it a good experience or did you think that you were being deceived by the babalawo?
Don’t worry because real babalawos by phone do actually exist. They do their Ifa divination and interpretation through the phone.
Be worried if they happen to give you inconsistent predictions and have forecasted only good things. If these babalawos keep only saying desirable results, it is most likely you are being fed the things that you only wanted to hear a person say it.
Meaning you do not know that you are actually paying a fake babalawo to give you false Ifa divination just to make you feel good about yourself. You do not need another fraudulent babalawo in your life.
Not only that the Ifa divination we get gives us that necessary push to go ahead. Be it our best friend, our parents or someone who knows us closely.
But getting that advice from Ifa on what we should do and what we shouldn’t is possible through online Ifa divination. Real online babalawos are not always so easy to find.
And why would ANYONE want to call a babalawo on the phone, when you could go and see a babalawo one on one and presumably get a better Ifa divination?
Best Divination System
In this post, I will take a quick and easy look at why CALLING a babalawo from the comfort of your home is much better most of the time and why Ifa divination is the best divination system to explore if you are curious about your future.
It is always that before taking a decision we want to discuss it with someone and want to be aware of the pros and cons from beforehand only.
But human experiences and advise are limited. They can never see the tomorrow; maximum can just try to assume some situations to put forward.
There are times when you are down and you need someone to tell you how bright the future is, getting a real Ifa divination can really help.
Imagine yourself in the situation where everyone is against you. It seems that anything you do is not right.
Sometimes you need someone to assure you that after all the bad things that happened, something good will still happen at the appointed time.
Real babalawos will give you Ifa divination and interpretations that will help you gain the confidence despite all the odds.
If you like email readings or by telephone, I give you the choice for you to ask as many questions as you want for a limited fee only.
You dont need to wait for a problem to arise before you seek Ifa divination!
