Importance of laughter therapy by babalawo Obanifa

Laughter is said to be the best medicine, but if one is laughing without reason, such person need medicine. It is the medicinal part of laughing that babalawo Obanifa is concerned with in this article. It is not good for human being to go for a whole day without laughing, it is detrimental to health. If  laughter is so important to human health and well being, then what is laughter? How is it use as therapy? This will be the major focus of discussion in this article. To my humble definition of laughter, the best comprehensive definition of
laughter I have come across ever is definition of laughter offer by Wikipedia. It define laughter thus :
Laughter is a physical reaction in humans and some other species of primate, consisting typically of rhythmical, often audible contractions of the diaphragm and other parts of the respiratory system. It is a response to certain external or internal stimuli. Laughter can arise from such activities as being tickled,[1] or from humorous stories or thoughts.[2] Most commonly, it is considered a visual expression of a number of positive emotional states, such as joy, mirth, happiness, relief, etc. On some occasions, however, it may be caused by contrary emotional states such as embarrassment, apology, or confusion such as nervous laughter or courtesy laugh. Age, gender, education, language, and culture are all factors[3] as to whether a person will experience laughter in a given situation.

Laughter is a part of human behavior regulated by the brain, helping humans clarify their intentions in social interaction and providing an emotional context to conversations. Laughter is used as a signal for being part of a group—it signals acceptance and positive interactions with others. Laughter is sometimes seen as contagious, and the laughter of one person can itself provoke laughter from others as a positive feedback.[4] This may account in part for the popularity of laugh tracks in situation comedy television shows.

Since we are now accustomed with what laughter is, from the definition above, we will now concern with how laughter is been use as a Therapy. Let me simply put it laughter therapy. What do we mean by laughter therapy?. By this we mean a type of therapy that uses humor to help relieve pain and stress and improve a person’s sense of well-being. It may be used to help people cope with a serious disease, such as cancer. Laughter therapy may include laughter exercises, clowns, and comedy movies, books, games, and puzzles. It is a type of complementary therapy. Also called humor therapy.

IMPORTANTANCE OF LAUGHTER THERAPY
By importance of laughter therapy, I am referring to those health benefits of laughter to you as human beings. Why you need not to go through your day without creating some minutes for reasonable that will make you laugh. Some the importance are :

*. Laughter have the ability to lower the level of stress hormone and improve the body immune system.

*. Laughter prevent heart disease by improving the effects function of blood flow through the vessel.

*.  Research has shown that laughter is a form of exercise that massage body organ to make perform adequate function.

*. Through research it has also be discovered that human beings use at least average of forty three muscle to frown, while it take only just seventeen muscle to smile.

*. Laughter is said to be source of physical and emotional release to human body, because during laughter exercise the diaphragm is well exercise, the abdomen is contracts it have effects on shoulder and other skeletal structure, this is believed to give the body relaxation.

*.  Through reasonable laughter, anger, distressing emotions are suppress.

*. Research have also prove that laughter facilitate the release of Hormones know as Endorphins in the body (this is a pain and stress relieve  hormone produce in the body) from this it can be deduce that laughter is also a source of temporary pain releive.

*. Stress and pain hormone like adrenaline or Cortisel is suppress during laughter.

*. laughter help in improving and boosting your body immune system to become efficient and effective.

*. Laughter can improve your level of creativity, body alertness, and sound retentive memory, because body and sole is unstressed and uncluttered by laughter.
