Spiritual Rites/Ritual To Avenge The Dead(Oku Riro)

In this article babalawo Obanifa will be explaining oku riro (spiritual  rite/ritual  to Avenge the dead). Oku riro is rite carry out by initiate on a corpse so that, the spirit of the deceased can Avenge or revenge his or her  cause of  death on any body who killed him or her, if her death is caused by another fellow human not God. In yoruba culture and spirituality if a person die suddenly, and the cause of death is so strange. For example may be the person was assassinated, or he died as results of spiritual attacks from unknown source.if people suspect that the death of a person is unnatural and that the death arise as a result of ill will of fellow human. What the Elder do then is to let the corpse of the deceased pass through iro oku (spiritual rite to Avenge the dead). If this rite is perform the spirit of the dead person will arise to revenge his or death on any body who killed him or have hand in his death. The spirit usually get the perpetrators kill. Now  I will explain how this can be carry out.
1.  IBURA ILEPA(OATH TAKING WITH THE DEAD)
Ibura ilepa is not usually an oku riro, it is different. Ilepa oku  (this is referring to inner soft Sands  dugg out from the grave of the deceased). There is another item called igbanu oku (igbanu oku is a small piece of white cloth used to tied the mouth of the corpse, it is normally remove before the corpse is bury). Our fore fathers usually took small out of this ilepa oku and put it inside igbanu oku. They will keep it. If issue arise in wish some people were highly suspected to have been the cause of death of the deceased. Those people suspect if they are very close families or friends. And evidence against such people is so weighty or the rumours is so prevalent. These people can be surmmon by elder. Then they will take little out of the ilepa oku out out of the igbanu oku and add it into small potable water. This set will then be ask to take oath with it that if they have hand in the death of the disease, the deceased spirit should Avenge his or death on them. They will now drink little out of the water. It is absolutely certain that if any of them know about the untimely or unnatural death of the deceased, they will meet their waterloo. It is instructive that this process can also be use against a person who come after the death of a deceased that the deceased own him or her some morning that no body know about. The creditor can be made to drink this type of water on oath too, then the family or children of the deceased will then pay the creditor. If the creditor lie he will meet his water loo, but if what he said is truth, nothing will happen to him after collecting his money.
2.OKU RIRO (SPIRITUAL RITE TO AVENGE THE DEAD) :the initiate will get the Ikin ifa oku (the sacred Ikin ifa of by  a deceased practicing babalawo), ewe ina (leave of Horned cucumber /it is also called nettle leave with scientific name Cucumismetuliferus) ewe esinsin (Tragia  tenuifolia or tragia vogeli), etu ibon (gun powder) Iru oka (tail of a cobra), ajaku apo ode to ti ku (and old hunting sack of a deceased hunter) Odidi atare kan, aso dufu(black color clothe) aso pupa (red cloth). All these items will be burn together,and grind into powder. The powder will be use to  imprint odu ifa  ogunda meji like this in the casket and placed this corpse on it.

You  will  bring a new localy made gun and load it with bullet and top it with some of the powder you prepare before. You will put it in the right hand of the deceased, you will take a new cutlass already sharp, don't use unsharp cutlass, you will tied black clothes around the cutlass and tied red cloth around the loaded gun. Then get three cane and place it inside the coffin too. Remove every clothes use to tied the corpse, all the body of corpse must be free. Don't bury the corpse with white clothes, but bury it with red cloth. Here in yoruba land the cloth for the corpse is wear with front facing back. But in this case dress for the corpse as normal human being. after put a sharp knife on his chest, you will now instruct him or her with incantations to go and Avenge his or her death in brutal way on any body who might have have hand in his death. Cover the caskets, it will be place inside the grave. You will now put white dress made for him, and six yard of white clothes on the casket, and place a cover gourd of water. You will now instruct him that after he had completed his mission, he should wash his hand with that and change his dress with the withe cloth provided, to go on his Astral journey.
